I think it's pretty cool that someone is holding it for Kipper. The way I see it, you aren't Miikka Kipprusoff, so why should you have any right to that domain at all?
This guy isn't making any money off of it. There are no adds anywhere... All he says is that he's holding the domain for Kipper, and that he can have it (whenever he wants it) free of charge, and that he can even host it for him if he wants that, too.
I think that's actually quite honorable for him to do that. Who's to say that you or anyone else out there wouldn't try to sell some advertising on it, if you had it anyway?
Are you equally upset that some "loser" went and registered coke.com, and won't let you create a site there, too?
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but come on. The domain doesn't belong to you, and someone is holding it for the guy that it does belong to.
It's all good, imo.

Nobody here is saying that he wouldn't give it to Kipper or his agent... but it's been up there since 2004. If Kipper wanted to make his own official site, you know full well that Mr. Linstrom would be pushing his services to make $$$ to develop the site, when you've got fans who are in the business who would do it for the sake of being a huge fan... Hell I named my new Kitten "Miikka"
I wouldn't say his intentions are good at all... He still aims to make a buck off of Kipper, or his agent.
|
You sure are worked up about this dude... **** him just start your own site... most people don't know how to spell Miikka let alone Kiprusoff. Start your own domain.
Sweet name for the cat....even though half of Calgary now has a pet named after him. I went original and named mine Notorious K.A.T.

Agreed, he's making it seem like he's doing him a favour but anyone who goes there is being subjected to his advertising while the site offers nothing to anyone. Now if i want to make a kipper webpage i can't use his name as the domain. He can kiss my chode.

I don't think you understand the business at all.. I can see a squater when I see it. He may not have published ad's but he's peddling his company's services to people who want to visit miikkakiprusoff.com for info on their favorite player. It's clear as day, and his email responses to me further cemented his intentions.
He has every intention to make money off of the name, don't be fooled. I'm not saying that I have more of a right then him to own the name, he's lucky he got it but don't let the "Oh I'll give it to Miikka or his agent all in good faith" stuff cloud your judgement. In the end his intention is to give up the name, and peddle his services and make some money off of it.
This has been on my radar for years, so yes I am somewhat heated about it.

Where does he even mention the name of his company or ask others to buy his service....he is just asking that if Kipper takes the domain that he use his service. I don't see a problem with it...only problem I see is that domain is a wste becasue you are right Kipper will never email him about it...

Asking to use his services is advertising is it not?? When I inquired about the name, he was strongly pushing me to buy another name, through him, and to use his hosting services. Especially targetting a millionaire NHL player as a client he could rake in some fine coin. Good luck to him, but if you buy his "Good will" you're out to lunch.
He knows he's going to get fans inquiring to buy the name, so he declines, does the same spiel and hope people do use his services. Take my word for it.

Either way it is a useless site with no info on it....I think he would probably be better off to make it a "real" webpage and then advertise his services on it....instead of trying to pull the good guy thing.
He is trying to make money...god forbid someone do that...it could be worse he could be scalping tickets!

I don't know why you are avoiding the painfully obvious answer.........
Legally change your name to Miikka Kiprusoff.
That way he either has to give it to you, or if not you have a legitimate challenge for the site.

Heheh, thanks for adding some humor. Anyway that was my 2 cents+tip on the guy and what he's doing.
The guy's lucky to have the name, good luck to him I guess.

First of all, I'm pretty sure that it's actually illegal to purposely claim domain names willingly with the knowledge that at some point in the future that entity may host a website under the same name (although this COULD be a law restricted to company's and not people).
Second of all, I HOPE Kiprusoff doesn't care. Because honestly?
Player specific sites are lame:
LAME

With http://www.miikka-kiprusoff.com/ being available, as well as many variations of the name, anyone, including Kipper himself, have many options to make whatever domain name they want for the page they want, with little confusion as to the theme of the website.
This guy, like anyone selling domain's on Ebay, are hoping for the 1 in a million jackpot.
I don't see the big drama over this.

So...my question is if you were to have that site and were to build it up, would you not then be advertising your company or services as a designer on the site? I would think you would have some sort of link to your portfolio or whatever you have.
I don't see the big deal with him registering the site and sitting on it. Grab the site Browna suggests and quit whining.

I wouldn't since i'd be doing it as an individual. I could easily make a Kipper website with another name, but as a web developer you always want the .com, like I said, if this guy actually did something with the site I'd have no problem, but to me it's a huge waste.

Clearly the squatter is reaping in multiple TENS of dollars in increased business from all the people looking for Kipper's web site.
I mean puck bunnies and teenagers spend lots of money on web design services! Right?
