I was thinking the same thing.
I can't view the video but being from what others have said. If it is ment to hurt someones feelings - then it's wrong.
If it's meant to be in jest..... Is it an issue?

a little off topic, but why are people afraid to even say/write the word ****** when discussing the topic? it's use/intention is what makes it vile, no the actual word.

Yes...because Sasha Baron Cohen is very racist.
I am not sure if you are just kidding around or if you entirly miss the point in Cohen's humour.

It shouldnt be, but in this case it seemed Richards was so PO'ed by continually being heckled by these two black men that he fired back in a way he knew would upset them and hurt their feelings.

I really find comments like this interesting. In my mind, for someone to be a racist there needs to be some sort of act against a specific group. For example, if he didnt let the black folks into the show; that would be racist. Im not sure calling someone the n-word is racist if that is the act.
Of course, someone who wouldnt let blacks into a show is likely to use the n-word so I guess people just associate the word with racists? I dont know. But calling someone a racist just because they used a word seems a bit over the top to me. I think that label gets thrown around much to liberally.
Regerdless, as a huge Seinfeld fan this entire incident is sickening.

Agreed. It's a brutal term with terrible historical connations behind it.
And for the other debate regarding black people using it, in my opinion it is just as racist and ignorant.

Depending on who says it and in what content. Yes I agree that the remarks that Kramer made were of a racist nature....but just because he said it doen't make him a racist. A lot of times people say things in the heat of the moment, things they don't might not believe but only say it because it is the easiest thing to say at the time and it hurts.
How many times have you said something in anger but didn't mean what you said?

Unless you are an African American, you have no say in the debate about the word “n” only the African American population knows that its like to have that used word against them and there ancestors, and they are the only ones who have the right to decide whether or not to use it

I would agree if he just simply used the word in jest, as stated by a poster above. But when the word is directed to a black person by a non black person in a hurtful way as Richards did, I would have no quams with calling that racism.

Yes, I somewhat agree, but you also prove my point. The word alone does not constitute racism, it is the context.

And no other race knows what that is like? Classic.
Once it is used in everyday life. By anyone, not just the race that is saying it.
Hence if a black person says nig*er as in
"What's up nig*er!" or "ni*ga" (is that wrong too? The fact that it's spelled wrong?)
Once this has been done, in my opinion and many other that I have spoken to. It's no longer an issue. It must be completely stopped or ingnore it if it bothers you. That's it. That's all.
However back on topic - Richards has to be crapping himself right now. What he did was wrong. It was not ment as a slang term for friend or brother. It was ment in a derogatory context.

All we are seeing is Richards go off. We have no idea what was said before to cause him to go off on the hecklers. Without context, it just looks like a crazy man throwing racial slurs.
We are missing the 5-10 minutes before the rant. Who knows, the hecklers could have been saying things 10x worse, and the rant being fully justified.

funnily enough many of them have chosen to proliferate use of the word and keep it alive. So now its cool to call someone what a slave master might've called your ancestors? I never did understand that. Dumb.

Well this anwsers my question, you clearly do not understand his comedy.
Anti Semetic? Did you know that Sasha Baron Cohen is.....well.....JEWISH?
As for his other "rantings" if you think those are his views, or views he is immposing on citizens of Kazakhstan I advise you to watch the movie again(if you have even watched it).
The only thing you could possibly say about the guy is that perhaps "Borat" spews anti-americanism.

The clear difference here is that Borat's rants are, quite clearly, satirical. They are designed to get us to re-examine many of our own stereotypes and to display how stupid many of our own judgements are. At least, that's why I think. Although Borat definetely verges on that line.
Richards' diatribe is just a hateful mess.

anyone who thinks that only white people are racist really needs to wake up from their fairytale dream. blacks, asians, east indians etc are just as bad....sometimes they are even worse. Japan has to be one of the most outwardly racist countries in the world, and it's pretty much generally accepted. but i guess thats ok, cause whitey is bringing them down too....
there are idiots spewing hate all over, it's not segregated to one type of people.
