I thought that one of the degrees of murder (3rd I believe) is for unintentional murder. So if you drive drunk and kill someone that is what you are charged with.

Your conclusions then seem to be:
1. Since stabbings happened at WEM every day you were there, by extension, they happen every day regardless of your presence
2. West Edmonton Mall on Boxing Day is therefore reflective of the city of Edmonton in general
3. Stabbings never happen in Calgary
I lived in Edmonton for four years in University and never saw any type of violent crime occur (Whyte Ave, WEM, otherwise) therefore by your apparent 'logic', there was never any violent crime while I was there.
Yay for judging an entire city based on one day! Go you!

I'll bash Edmonton for whatever reason I may thanks. Think outside the box... of course I don't think that happens every day.

IIRC, there is not 3rd degree anymore. Just 1st, 2nd and the manslaughter

Technically, the ordinal number system does not exist in the law, at least not anymore. 1st, 2nd, 3rd... all colloquialisms, probably perpetuated by police lingo.

Omaha, which is half the size of Edmonton had 20 murders in 2004 and 2600 violent crimes. Less crime but the same amount of murder per capita.
I came here in Edmonton's defence but once I actually pulled up crime stats I realized they actually are pretty high on a continental platform.

Go right ahead, I never said you couldn't, just hoping to expand the meaning behind your post (if there is one) ... I, personally, choose to bash Edmonton because OILFAN #81 lives there

Except for the murders, I'd take a lot of these stats with a grain of salt. Probably a lot of crimes are never reported because the cops can't or won't do anything. It's kind of like saying crime is way down in the park and maybe it is because everyone knows it's too dangerous to go there anymore.

He got stabbed right in front of you? Why didn't you help identify the assailant. Those guys got off because nobody could identify them.

Honestly, never seen anything like it.

I party on Whyte Ave pretty regularly and I usually walk home from the bar at the end of the night. I've never felt unsafe or seen anything terrible happen

How, even in the context of making fun of Edmonton, is that considered funny?

Alright, I've lived in Calgary for almost all my life except the past two for school. You get to see alot of things in Edmonton you don't see in Calgary... robberies, stabbings, etc. My whole life I never experianced seeing a robbery, having someone stabbed 2 blocks from my house then 3 blocks then next day... until I moved to Edmonton. JOY! (And they seem to have a problem with road rage.)

I wasn't laughing at the incident, more the fact that I didn't think there actually was a stabbing, and then found out there was. In fact, the stabbing on Whyte, at least one of them, has also now turned into a murder. Two in one night.
