You guys think you have to bad. At least your only neighbours by land are the States, who most have their own healthcare. We have millions, yes millions per year who come from continental Europe for a free operation of some sort thanks to the great EU. Polish, Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Czech, Bosnian, Hungarian citizens and more have a second rate healthcare system compared to the UK so when they need some medical attention they get the train legally over here and say "oh well, while i am holiday over here i might as well go to the hospital and get that really expensive procedure done for FREE". British people have died waiting for an operation while health-tourists get bumped up the list because they are leaving the country soon... that is shockingly bad. Plus the 500,000 we get a year who arrive illegally from all over the world claiming asylum or whatever. Then they get their free house and car and benefits to make them feel at home while they are kicking old ladies out of their homes and into shelters because they are not as important. My government is ruining my country by neglecting the British people who live here and work here and pay our taxes here.

Reeaallly... I had no idea Eastern Europeans could go to Britain for free healthcare... that is one economically integrated Union! Of course... the 'health-tourists' probably spend a bit of money while they're there, but I'm sure that doesn't offset the cost of an expensive operation. Interesting.

I feel really bad for you Magic. I know whats going on over there and it is very sad. Not to far in the future Britian will no longer be the Britian it was for the last 1000 years. Not to mention....your government is going to go broke for all the reasons that you just stated. People who feel they deserve something without contributing to the social net. Many....and I mean many people from the UK are leaving your country in droves and coming to Canada.

Reminds me of last year when there was a flu shot shortage in the US so there were seniors bus trips to Canada to get flu shots. As long as we have the supply to handle it I'm pleased we could help. But if a Canadian senior didn't get a shot because of these trips, that would have been crossing the line.

True...but I am sure the US seniors had to pay for their treatment while here....I don't think it was free.
One thing that really ****es me off is people that travel to Canada without travel medical coverage (insurance) and then something happens and we are stuck with the tag. I am under 30 years old and I get travel coverage when ever I leave for another country.....it should almost be a requirement. I saw a report out of BC and it said on average they are out over 10 million dollars a year because of foriegn tourists that come to BC and require medical treatment and then don't pay. That is BS

if you are a canadian citizen, move to the us and get US citizen, than Canada allows the dual citizenship as far as I understand. however, the US does not. Is that correct?

and yes, the americans who came up there by the busloads did pay for their flu shots. in fact, here in the USA, you pay about 25 bucks for the flu shot unless you have insurance that covers it. i know this cuz i JUST got mine last week.

The U.S. does allow dual-citizenship but you are forced to pay American Federal income tax no matter where your place of residency is. This helps avoid the debate like the one brought on by the evacuation of Lebanese Canadians here because they contribute to the American system no matter where they live. In Canada, Australia, and most other dual-citizenship nations, you are only stuck paying tax on any income that is "sourced" in that country.

As I stated before US allows dual citizenship.
"A U.S. citizen may acquire foreign citizenship by marriage, or a person naturalized as a U.S. citizen may not lose the citizenship of the country of birth"

Well...according to the US IRS website...you are allowed to earn up to $80,000 tax free in a foreign country.
That is a lot of money.
