I ate at Abruzzo tonight for the 2nd time in 2 years. A mixed experience, good staff, the place is a bit on the dingy side, and the food was good. However, 20 minutes after I'm thirstier than hell (my Linguini Pescatore was salty) and one of our party ain't feeling so well.

I'd take La Brezza or Da Guido over it. Both of those are cheaper too I think.

Pulcinella report:

atmosphere
Not what we were expecting. We weren't prepared for the sleek moderm chocolate wood floor, white everything look. We were more thinking traditional italian for some reason. There was nothing wrong with this look except the place is freaking LOUD. I don't think it was just due to the big table of cougars near us or the other big table with 3 kids, it just has an overall din of sound which makes it hard to have conversation. It's not a quiet spot for a date any way unless you stay in the lounge, it was much quieter there for some reason.

Food
I can't find the appetizer menu online and I forget the name, but we had the orzo crusted, saffron flavoured croquette like things with mozzarella in the middle which was really good. Our friends had calamari, and overlooking the hot chili flakes, they said it was good, cooked just the right amount.

For pizzas the Mrs. and I shared the calzone and the spek. The salami in the calzone was awesome, I could have just had that with mozzarella. The ricotta pieces weren't to my liking though, I couldn't really place what it was, I think perhaps the combo of the creaminess mixed with a gritty texture and a strong taste. The spek pizza was really good, if we're back there again I think that's what I'd go with. Really good smoky taste. The crust was fine on the spek however on our friends margherita it was really soggy as some have described above. They said the center was almost doughy still, and it certainly looked it.

Nutshell
The food I ate was good for the most part, it's not their fault the ricotta and I didn't work, I just know better now. Ignoring that everything else was good. I could just go back for the croquettes alone. The biggest downer for me was the volume of the place. I really don't enjoy having to speak loudly for the other side of a 4 person table to hear me. As I said, we started off in the lounge side as we waited for our table and it was much quieter. We were commenting if we could have pushed two table together in the lounge, it would have been better.

It's definately a place with trying and was a good suggestion.
