Ok. Sorry. Comments like that bug me. Not as much as this kind of cruelty. This is just sick. As I type this, the jerk neighbour dog is barking. He barks at me every time I leave or enter the house if he's outside. Just doesn't figure it out that this is MY territory. I would like for him to go live a happy live on a farm out of town, not get dragged behind a car. He's too big for the city.

Definitely there's different cultural value sets. Some cultures will eat dogs. Don't agree with that, but that's the way the world works. Bon appetite.

I don't endorse unethical treatment of my food sources either, and in that respect, then yes, industry standards need to be above board. Humane practices should be established. Wholeheartedly in agreement.

But really, the issue here is the treatment of an animal that was in no way harvested for human consumption. It was cruelty plain and simple and because it happened locally it becomes noteworthy.

It's not the time for enraged vegetarians to lecture against the sins of us omnivores. It's one of localized cruelty, and I think we're all in agreement that this incident is disturbing.
Well said. Every single one of can agree that these kids are mentally disturbed and deserve more than a fine and a few months of probabtion.

I'm just interjecting a thought. Like one of my favoirite comics says, we only want to save the cute animals. What are you? A cow? get on the truck!

Who's enraged? I may have tipped my hand but I don't tell anyone what they should eat or shouldn't.

Being a pet owner myself I'm absolutely disgusted that someone could do that to any animal. The fact that the moronic kid would do it to his own is just insane.

People like this are only a twitch away from dragging people behind their vehicles. We should really re-evaluate the punishment for this stuff. Some people are just sick...

And that makes me sad. If I got it right, you're a rural person. In which case you deal with animals and have taken in mixed breed dogs. And you understand the principles of animal husbrandry.

I wish there was someway I could make you feel better.

She has three dogs. And lives near Didsbury. Matter of fact, I get off in Didsbury when I take the bus to visit my sister. (Who is pyro....) As disturbing as this is, and would be anywhere, it's even more so when it's in your back yard, so to speak.

I think that's the point. I'm not sure there is a problem with eating animals, as long as they didn't live a poor or cruel life. Which is why I boycott many fast food chains including KFC.

Many of our meat industry practices can and should become more friendly towards the animals. Also people should rememeber that animal flesh is a treat or a side, not a staple. Not saying we have to stop eating meat (nor do I think it's healthy to completely eliminate it from most people diets) but we could all probably eat a lot less.

I have no qualms about hunting and eating animals, but for gods sake, do it as humanely as possible. I completely support the humane animal hunter who uses the whole animal. That animal lived a better life than those in the pen, and probably died a better death. We will all live and we will all die, some of us in a lot of pain. As long as it's not being purposely inflicted against us, then that's just life. We all die to feed another species.

Hunting for sport or in these extreme cases, masochist pleasure, is obviously a heinous crime.

It does no good to ignore these things.

MOD EDIT: ALWAYS warn with links like that.
That was disturbing...people who hurt dogs like that should be punished for much longer! Did you know that if you kill a police dog, your sentence will be the same as if you killed a person?

Maybe Im just being an overly sensitive woman, but those pictures made me cry.

Like the peopel who were protesting CN earlier this week about all the Bears they are killing with their trains. All they want is CN to ensure that grain does not fall off their trains and attract bears to the tracks when they are hit.

But if it costs money to solve the problem, then bo one cares to move. Christ, people don't even want to slow down 10 km driving through Banff.

Ok, you lost me at the PETA part. Replace that iwth SPCA and you're golden.

A lot depends on the circumstances. To put it into human terms, imagine this was a 10 year old mentally ######ed kid (sorry if that isn't the PC term.) The dog was likely coaxed, and I can just see the way the dog looked at the people who did this. The dog likely had that goofy dog smile that asked "are we going to play? Are we going to have fun?"

Same thing if the ######ed kid in my other example was approached by two older boys and was asked "we're going to the park to play ball- want to come along?" Then the kid gets abused, or in this case tortured. That would spark a similar outrage for me.

I think that would make you cringe just as much. Because what bugs me the most is not that a dog died, but somebody took what was likely a fun loving happy go lucky critter and left him with the dying impression that humans are aresholes and that he wasn't loved.

Uhhh but they are.

And your right, that term wasn't really PC.

Come over to my place and look for a piece of leather or an SUV, you should not blanket comments like that over a group of people.

No MacBeth's, Vegetarian Shoes, a vegan shoe company; how about sticking your commentary to things you might have a clue about...

Well it is impossible to survive without some sort of animal product or by-product in your house.

kudo's for trying though.

You do sounds cranky though, I find a nice t-bone steak does the trick when I'm cranky.

Maybe, but why? I'm looking around this office (in the house) and I can't see anything that would be an animal or animal by-product, and I don't even try to avoid such things. I could easily live without the leather belt/jacket/shoes I have, and a vegan diet is possible.
