The American version makes me straight faced.
Just reading how NBC version is taking the same jokes and "translating" them for the North American viewer makes me cringe. The BBC show was amazing and can never be recreated.
It's like going to watch a led Zeppelin cover band and saying that they're better than the original.
Wait, it worse than that. The original Office is the Beatles, the NBC version is the Monkees.

They've had over 30 episodes of the american version, they only used jokes in the very first episode. We get that you don't like it, whoop de do.
No it can never be re-created, and it isn't, its a show with the same premise but it's totally different from the origional.

Great show, and yea, a good start to the third season. Easily one of my favorite shows on TV right now, and one of the few shows where I actually try and remember when its showing.

This really sucks. All of these great shows on TV, and I really don't like spending more than 3-4 hours a week in front of the TV. Between Prison Break, House, The Office, Studio 60 and hockey, I'm going to be spending far too much time in front of the TV this winter.

Network TV has been getting alot better. A year or so ago I could count on..two fingers.. the shows I never wanted to miss. King of the Hill, and that was about it. Right now it's King of the Hill, 24, Lost, House, Studio 64 (as of right now), The Office.. and hockey games and most MMA PPV's.

I am so happy the office is back again, I actually bought a Dwight bobble head doll and a tshirt, the show is amazing. I am glad with what they did about Pam and Jim, although it will be interesting to see what they do about her ex since he apparently is nicer and wants her back. Should be a great season.
Haha gaydar, that should make me laugh for about a week.

A lot of critics think that we have entered a new "golden age" for television when it comes to the number of really quality shows.
Speaking of quality shows...
The best show on TV that none of you are likely watching is The Wire.

The fact is that NBC stumbled ass-first into Scrubs, My Name is Earl and The Office.

I'm British and I love both versions of The Office. I have to admit to only watching them on DVD so I did not see tonight's episode though.
I honestly think that this is the best adaptation of a British show to American TV ever. They've done the show proud and I'm sure that Gervais and Merchant are really pleased with it for more reasons than the huge amount of cash coming their way (although that won't hurt!)
Unlike most apdaptations they got the casting bang on here. Rainn Wilson is simply brilliant as Dwight and, dare I say, some of the American counterparts are actually better than the original British ones.

You couldn't be more off base. I'm a huge Ricky Gervais fan, loved the british series (All.... 14... Episodes)
Anyway, they don't reuse the jokes, it's a totally different show. You're a fool not to watch it for the reasons you specified.

Is there any topic of popular culture or entertainment enjoyed by CPers that you can avoid ****ing upon? First it was Rockstar and now this. Like the above poster said, you are only making a foolish mistake.
From reading your comments it sounds more like you are one of those people have never seen the American Office (but will still rail against it) because your comments make no sense as the American Office bears no resemblance nor carries forth any of the jokes from Gervais' Office since the first episode of season 1. They have gone off completely different tangents and are spiritually two completely different shows. The British version is more in line with a mockudrama designed for nigh-realism and maximum cringe factor at the utter social baffoon that David Brent is and the American version is obviously much more human drama/physical humor oriented with simply showing Michael and Dwight as over-the-top idiots. The American version has absolutely nothing to do with the British version aside from a similar premise and a few character traits. Otherwise, it is a completely original and different show altogether which at this point, has nearly double the episodes and original material of British show already.
In fact, your post sounds like something David Brent would write regarding a popular TV show that he has to find an angle of attack on yet knows nothing about...then makes up something to fake it to the rest of the office from a position of ignorance but simply makes a fool of himself.
I am a huge fan of British comedy, I grew up watching bits of Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served, Red Dwarf, etc. and I was a huge fan of The British Office first - in fact, I play and sing Freelove Freeway on the guitar since I love it so much. But IMHO, the American version is superior in terms of entertainment and endearment (to the characters) while the British version is much more capable at simply making you squeamish.

Back on topic - I assume, down the line one of the branches will be downsized and they will be merged together bringing Jim back to Scranton.

Well said.

I could see that happening. I wonder if Ed Helms (Of daily show fame - the angry guy) would be coming with too...

Hilarious episode. I too was down on the American office when it was first broadcasted. It wasn't just the first episode that was similar to the BBC Office. Although they used different story lines the first season was a pretty static copy of the BBC Office.
Not so in the second season, which was one of the best TV comedy seasons ever in my opinion.
And this season opener was hilarious. "Kids, sometimes it pays to be gay." Awesome.
