I'm curious how and where this bike was stolen. Off the street? From your garage? Did you have it cable locked?

I used to have a garden shed to keep the bike in which was nice, I moved and had it locked to the building in the back yard of the new place with 2 Kryptonite chains. One was braided and the other was chain link, strongest and most expensive on the market. They did me no good since I forgot to lock it up one night after changing oil and taking the battery in for a charge, fell asleep and didn't go back out to lock up.
Completely my fault but it was only one night, neighbor was very dismissive and strange when I questioned him, probably called some friends over to steal it. All of which I reported of course.
One of these:

Out of curiosity, how are most motor bikes stolen? Can a strong guy(or two) just throw it into the back of a truck? Jumpstarted?

Police have no new info, guess the bike is still being processed so it hasn't been sent to the impound lot yet.
Anyways, my insurance agent downtown gave me bad info. I do not have the first right to buy it back, I was told by Jevco in ON that it will go up for auction.
So if I want the bike back I have to bid on it along with everyone else.

But it isn't his property anymore.
The insurance company paid him for it a long time ago, it's theirs now.

I'd pay blue book value to get it back, be a good deal for me if hasn't been destroyed. Plus I have well over $1,000 of aftermarket parts on that bike if they haven't been stripped.
Makes sense that the original owner who was ripped off should have first crack. I lost a chunk of money when paid off, be nice to get that paid back in a way.
And what if the vehicle had sentimental value? I had a friend who's Dad died and left him a van, he took care of that vehicle and held onto it. I can imagine he would be quite upset if this happened to him and he lost it to a higher bidder.

my brother had a toyota tacoma stolen, and the bluebook value was significantly lower than actual street value. his insurance company, after his persistance, considered the street value of his truck with comparables in the autotrader and gave him fair value for the truck.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that you should get first crack at buying it. I was just pointing out that the bike isn't yours anymore.
Either way good luck with trying to buy it back.
