For the most part, a fence on the USA side of the border would be a nothing event in your life and the lives of any Canadian.

Whether or not America actually needs to build a fence, from their point of view, is another debate. It seems dubious frankly. I also don't think America cares much about Canadians traipsing over the border . . . . the worry probably lies in undocumented illegal immigrants coming here and immediately crossing the border into America.

An interesting statistic I saw recently . . . . 50% of all births in America going forward will have an Hispanic background. Obviously, illegal immigration is changing the character of the country.

Remember that "Ellen" (Ellen DeGeneres) episode where Joe (David Anthony Higgins) revealed himself as an illegal Canadian immigrant from Red Deer, suddenly burbling "eh's" and "aboots?"

Or just immigration in general. There are only 13 million illegal immigrants--and many latino/as are legal immigrants, or citizens, let's not forget. Though it's true that American demographics are changing.

I don't care. It would cost them billions for negligable benefit. Which is why I called it dumb. But you are correct, it would have zero impact on my life.

We should beat them to it, and announce we are building a fence because we believe they are holding us back.

It affects us because I'm afraid Harper would cave in to their demands, and suddenly it's OUR duty and OUR taxpayer dollars that's building this ######ed fence.

Because I concern myself about overall humanity, and not just myself? Or at least I try to...

(note: this is not meant to be a snide remark; just noting why people might care)

Evidently the US Government does think the daily show is real news.
