Don't look at the brand names. Fit is more important. Wear what makes you comfortable. Mix and match reasonably-priced parts and splurge on a particular piece if you have to.

I'd vouch for Sports Swap. I had a mix of new and used equipment initially, and if a piece didn't work out, I'd swap it for another no questions asked. They're keen to develop good rapport with their customers. They'll steer you towards the good deals and not just try to foist a lot of expensive stuff on you. Highly recommended.

Agreed!

I bought bauer shin pads that fit great (all 17" of them) but the elbow pads of the same line felt like crap. Found some nikes that were very comfy. I have zero brand loyalty, whoever's stuff fits is what I buy.

well i have a cheap pair of skates that fit well and work well, however they're second hand and i have a feeling if a puck hits me in the foot it'll hurt like a bitch. is this how most skates are or do they have protective equip in the skates too?

and what stores do you think would be best?

sport check, sport swap, or canadian tire?

The toes should be protected better than the rest of the foot, but yes if a puck hits you in the side of the foot it will sting a little bit.

bad news team... im starting to get agrivated. i thought i had all my equipment ready, but apparently not. the problem is, i bought a face mask and a helmet seperate, the guy at sport check told me what to get pretty much. then i go home, try to put it together but one of the plastic things i screw onto the helmet was defected and too big. so today i go exchange it for another come home, and find out that this mask won't even fit on my helmet. so now i have to go find another mask or take back both and buy something completely different.

so does anyone know a good helmet with a face mask i could get? btw my current helmet is a bauer 1500.

Just take it all to SportsSwap or whatever and get them to do it.
