I can't rank them but I like all of the following, for different reasons though: NY, Boston, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto.

Of the smaller cities, I think my favourites might be Newport, RI and Quebec City.

-Ottawa*, born and raised here so I am biased, but I think it's really gorgeous, particularly in the summer. Love the canal, I jog there every morning with my doggie, skate on it every winter. We have our share of festivals and such, like Bluesfest. Downtown is great. It's a good size so everything is easy to get to...
-Montreal, just gorgeous. Good for shopping.
-Toronto, I hated it when I lived there, but now that I don't, I actually like it. Visiting TO is fun.
-New York, Spent this past New Years there and had a blast. Met a lot of great people, lots of great places to hang out. Also spent a little time in New Jersey and had fun there too.

I haven't been to a lot of the major north american cities..but just I moved to Vancouver (from Calgary). I'm pretty excited to be here. It's a beautiful city, has a great layed back vibe, seems to be a huge variety of things to do, a huge variety of different kinds of people. The only obvious thing that sucks about it is the Canucks.

Well, Quebec city was very nice when I went recently on a Quebec tour. Didn't think Ottawa was anything too special (other than parliment(I didnt ee too much of it) and Montreal seemed a little rough around the edges in some place.

Also, I know it gets a bad rap, but in terms of people Detroit was quite nice.

You do have a point though. It's really not in the best location... though I have never had too much of a problem getting to it.

Besides Calgary

1. Montreal
2. Chicago
3. Tampa Bay
4. Vancouver
5. Minneapolis

I have not really travelled a lot in North America. I really want to go to Las Vegas and New York City soon. The cities that I did not like at all that I have been to are St. Louis and Orlando. St. Louis is very dirty, and Orlando is to "touresty."

And as much as I dislike the city, Edmonton is always a good time when it comes to partying.

If I ever came into a TON of money, I'd move to San Fran in a heartbeat - I love that city - the way it looks, the weather, everything.

San Diego is also up there for me, love the weather there and all the things to do.

Haven't been out East much yet unfortunately, but hopefully will get there next summer!

I heard from a friend that the war museum in Ottawa is pretty cool. I really want to check that out someday.

Great Cities:

New York: Just action packed. A guy could sit around looking at billboards for hours and not get bored.

Honolulu: Right on the beach.

San Diego: LA lite.

Guadalajara: Best big city in Mexico. Tonnes to do and tonnes of life. Close to the ocean.

Not so great:

Toronto: Big and Empty.

LA: After you get done with the tourist stuff, it's just traffic, smog, and ugly.

Vegas: Too fake.

Haven't been to too many big cities in North America though. I'd like to see more of the East and South Eastern States.

But anyways, small cities (50-100 thousand) are the best citites.

Toronto would be bearable if the inhabitants weren't so obnoxious. Ever talked to someone who has just moved to Toronto to Calgary? Wow, I hate Toronto.

I just recently went to Ottawa for the first time, I really liked it. Nice city.

Out of the cities I've been to, I'd have to rank them as:

Chicago - I had a friggen blast here. I loved the downtown, as well, although at one point I was walking with the map upside down, and found myself in a neighbourhood I probably shouldn't have been in. Got out of that area and back on the Miracle Mile as quickly as possible.

Quebec City - What an awesome place. I'd go here over and over, if I could.

San Fransisco - I thought it was really neat here, and Fisherman's Wharf was pretty cool. Good times were had, although I was too young to hit the bar scene.

Montreal - Seemed a little crazier than QC, but the culture scene was happenin'. What a cool place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Las Vegas - A little too busy for me, but there's a million things to do here. I'm a bit of a lighting designer, so this place really intrigues me.

Vancouver - It's a nice place, but I have a deep seeded hatred for anything in BC's Lower Mainland, and that ruins it for me. The steam clock is cool, I guess.

Ottawa - The War Museum is extremely cool, but past that I really didn't see anything special in the town.

Los Angeles - Ugh. Traffic and smog. That about sums it up for me.

Edmonton - I just had to put this in for comedic relief. What a dump.

Toronto - I just can't stand the people. Sooo arrogant.

Other than Calgary, cities I've spent a significant amount of time in:

#1 - LA: I think you're either completely for LA or completely against it, but I'd love to live in the LA area. If I ever came into some extra money, or had the opportunity, I'd be there in a heartbeat, especially in a place like Santa Monica, Redondo Beach, or Long Beach.

#2 - New York: Truly one of the greatest cities in the world, so much to see and do.

#3 - Edmonton: OK, so I went to University there and have a (very) soft spot in my heart for it.

#4 - Seattle: It's like Vancouver, without the uppityness!

#5 - Denver: As close to Calgary as you are going to get in the States, a real pleasure to spend time in.

#6 - Toronto: There are not very many positive things I can say about this place ... they have the Blue Jays? That's about it ...

#7 - Vancouver: I've never liked Vancouver - I much prefer Seattle as the people are just as friendly as any Calgarian, the climate is exactly the same, the physical beauty is the same if not greater, and you don't have people with their noses up in the air because they are in "Hollywood North".

Well, don't paint all of us with the same brush. Some of us left Toronto to get away from the obnoxious folks.

It really is an awesome city. Great food and some of the friendliest people I've met on Earth.

#1 NYC - Going there in a few days. Can't wait
#2 San Fran - Downtown has it all, shopping, scenery, nightlife
#3 Tempe - ASU, nightlife, football and FAT TUESDAYS
#4 Chicago - A mini NYC
#5 Boston - Freedom trail is one of the best urban walks in North America
#6 Vegas - For only 2 or 3 days though, then it gets old.

I've seen a lot of Minneapolis on here and loads of Chicago. I'm looking to take a hockey road trip any time after Jan 1 this year and was thinking about catching the Flames in MIN and then CHI. I'm guessing these are two good spots to hit?

Chicago is a great town, no doubt

Minneapolis was on my list. I was very pleasantly surprised with my only visit there...the only caveat I would have is that it was a beautiful summer week...I'm guessing the twin cities (like much of Canada of course) possibly shows a bit better in the summer
