There are 8 megabits in a megabyte. So 10 megabits per second translates into 1.25 megabytes per second.

8 Megabites in a MegaByte? EDIT: Beat me to it Ken

I get 4Mbs on Shaw regular. I never realized how much slower Telus is.

Anyone still noticing that Shaw is shaping bandwidth for torrents? I've been getting better speeds lately.

Average download - 2960 Kbit/s
Average upload - 456 Kbit/s

I assume that's bad. It is a wireless network...is there a way I can improve that?

try bypassing the router and connecting your computer directly to the modem. if the speeds are still poor it may be RF issues with the signal coming into the modem, in which case you'd need to call tech support. unless of course you're using an older Motorola modem instead of the DOCSIS one (flat grey box vs. vertical black one), in which case those speeds are quite normal

Ok, I have finnaly figured out my internet woes. For the last month, I was getting poor performance out of my connection. Even had tech guys come in and check my lines. They figured they were older lines with older splitter burried in the walls. When I ran speed tests, my d/l speed was about what I would expect but my u/l speeds blew hard. I concluded it was a problem with the modem and went out and switched it up with one of the newest models. Voila! U/l and d/l speed were pretty much were they should be so I am now considering bumping myself up to the I-Extreme but not sure if I would make use of it all. I do play a lot of online games and d/l large patches/demos/updates and such but do you figure it's worth it? I know it's only $10 more per month but is the difference that noticeable?
