Sorry, but you're wrong.
Donairs are not served at Falafel King. Shawarmas and Falafel are served.
For about 600 calories I can get a large sandwich that fills me up. There aren't many 600 calorie sandwiches that do that for me.
Insignificant amount of veggies? You've obviously never eaten there. The pitas are packed full off lettuce, tomato, onions, radishes, parsley and pickles.
Next time, try eating there before providing a critique.

Sorry,
Is that for a lunch buffet or the salad bar in general? I'd like to try just the salad bar sometime (steaks are probably too $$$ for me), but probably only after work in the evening...
It is for the entire lunch buffet. The salad bar is included. There are many prime rib and steak options within the lunch buffet. That what makes it so good. They have everything!
I am not to sure if the buffet is available after work....

I don't understand why people like Sunterra so much... it is 'okay' and maybe even 'good', but no where near 'great'.
EDIT: I guess if you are comparing it to food court food it is 'great' but there are SO many great places by that metric.

Sunterra is totally hit and miss. Some days it's good, other days it's absolutely terrible.

BigPan = looks good, tastes bland.
Still their sandwiches aren't bad from a value point of view against what Druxy's charges.
It bugs me that it's hard to get your lunch for $5 now.... I'm spending about 6-7$ now...without a drink! Used to be fairly easy to do but rent seems to have gone through the roof for the merchants...

Yes! It's like they don't know what seasonings are.

I think the Sunterra Market in the TCPL building is better than the one in Banker's hall. They make an awesome grilled salmon with veggies for about $8 (probably $9 now). Even still, you could barely buy the ingredients for that amount of money.

I would say the Chick Pea on 8th Ave, between 7th and 8th street. It's tucked under the +15 that connects to the Husky tower. They serve Donairs, Falafel's, and Shawarmas (This is what I always get and was told by someone this is what it is called, I actually order a chicken deluxe and that is what this is). I have a group of co-workers that I've worked with over the years and we all meet together and hit up the Chick Pea usually once a week.
They also serve some really good looking deserts and other things but I only ever get the chicken deluxe.

I always like Milestones on Stephen Ave. Mall, just west of the Glenbow Museum. Prices are reasonable and the food is always great.

I love Sate subs on 7th ave across from the 8th street station. Sate beef sub, 2 spring rolls and a pop for $8, can't go wrong

Top three for taste and value IMO:
1) Falafel King
2) Sate Sub
3) Ol Fashioned European Sausage House

Excellent thread!
I'd just liek to add Kim Anh on 17th Ave SW between 5th and 6th street make, IMO, the best spicy Vietnamese subs in Calgary.
Plus, the girl who works there is really cute, although she is probably a little too young for most of us.

My favorite place downtown also. Didn't know about the buffet takeaway, have to check that out. $9.50 is a great deal. I'll see how much food I can stuff in that container!

SubMission in the +15 level of the Watermark tower (West of SEARS on Stephen Ave.)
I really can't believe nobody mentioned them (or I can't read) great sub, fresh bread, fresh vegtables, decent price, always packed (a testimate to quality) I haven't had Subway since I started working downtown...

Wow, SubMission is still around? That's great. I went there the first day it was open Pretty good. I try to avoid the really good places, because then I spend too much money

Blech - I've been here several times and I can never seem to find anything on the menu I want. If you're going for this genre of food downtown, you'd be better off with Earls or the Met. Better scenery there too...
Triple recommendation for the Submission in Watermark. Great fresh ingredients and bread, and best of all super nice people (although the smiley guy is on medical leave I think...sorry to hear). Not the cheapest of places but on par with Subway. Working in that building that place is a godsend!
