I'd suggest you give 'Violator' and 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' another try. GREAT stuff, IMO...and I'm NOT generally a fan of the genre. Depeche Mode is the cream of the crop in it as far as I'm concerned.

I still enjoy Tears for Fears, Missing Persons, Blondie, Go Go's and probably most of all The Cure(to name a few). I hope New Wave music makes a comeback, minus the crappy clothes, makeup and hair.
|
You might enjoy Interpol:
http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti...terpol/antics/
The New York-based foursome of Paul Banks, Carlos D., Sam Fogarino and Daniel Kessler took indie rockers worldwide by storm (and made Matador a lot of money) with 2002's 'Turn On The Bright Lights,' which introduced their neck-stabbing guitar-rock mix of Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, and all of your other favorite 80s bands. That captivating sound returns on this sophomore release.
Can Interpol, a band that revels in gloom and misery, survive mainstream success?

Matador is a label I really like. When I hear that a band is on that label, I automatically assume they are worth a listen. Sometimes it turns out I was wrong, but most of the time, I'm happy.
I'll have to give Interpol a shot now.

I believe J.Geils band's song Centerfold was the chart topping song from 1982, and that ended like a six year run of Disco songs being Billboard magazines top song for the year. So as a result I've always associated that song with the death of Disco, and hence consider that my favorite 80's song. Other groups like the Police, Dire Straits, and U2 also had some very good music in the 80's. What did Margaret Thatcher do to these lads (granted most of these groups started in the 70's so I'll bet nothing).

Or Loverboy?
I went to see Mr. Bungle in concert a few years ago and they played some Loverboy songs as a mock tribute to Canadian music. It was pretty funny.
