Yes, this seems to be the case but the pro-aspartame sites (industry sites with vested interests) don't seem reliable either. Is there any neutral view points? I'll see what I can find (quackwatch maybe).
I did quote a study that found cancer in rats.

Question
An email message is being circulated with many statements to the effect that aspartame is dangerous. How worried should I be?.
Answer
Not at all. The message is pure rubbish. The following Web sources have reliable information:

The funny thing about this whole aspartame-MS-cancer thing is that, even if there WERE a statistically significant cancer risk, it would pale in comparison to the risk of diabetes that consuming large quantities of regular sugar-sweetened soft drinks (and slurpees) poses.

What the hell ever happened to Strawberry Slurpees? That used to be my favorite flavour as a kid and now you can't find them anywhere.
Last place I saw them was the 7-11 in Lethbridge about 8 years ago. Haven't seen or had one since. That was such a good flavour I don't understand why they got rid of it.

I don't know if it's only California or nation-wide, but the slurpees here suck big time compared to the ones in Canada. They are light and fluffy and have no substance, a slurpee is one of the very first things I buy whenever I go home.

Both the Sandstone Esso and MacEwan CT Gas Bar have Strawberry right now. You can also add ice cream at the MacEwan one too. Very tasty with lime too.

I am horribly addicted to slurpees. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall... I drink Slurpees. I have cut back A LOT (3 a week) from the one per day I was drinking. I've lost a bit of weight as well, LOL.

Yeah American Slurpees suck. One reason I was happy to move back to Canada, . Only 7-11 has alright ones in the USA. All the other ones are exactly like you said and usually only a couple falvours. What are they called Slush Puppy's? Those ones suck. I think Calgary is the king of Slurpees, almost every store that sells them has 8-12 flavours, sometimes more.

There's a Canadian Tire gas station in Kelowna that sells those too, and you're right they are freakin' awesome! I don't know why more stores don't do that.
All this talk about slurpee's sure makes me miss Canada though. The only place you can get them in China is at 7-11 and they aren't even close to the same as back home. They are really foamy and airy, and as soon as you walk outside it's half gone because all the air escapes in the heat and humidity, LOL. Oh well, I couldn't believe they even had 7-11's when I first got here let alone slurpee's, so I shouldn't complain I guess.

Orange and strawberry are the two best flavours
