They're more of a 2 hit wonder. Mexican Radio was pretty popular too.
For a band to be a "one-hit wonder", do they have to totally disappear after their hit, or can they still sell a lot of albums, but just not have any more commercial hits?

I just did some quick research and found that both bands recorded the song, but Wall of Voodoo was the original.
Devo were apparently big fans of Wall of Voodoo.

I would consider Frankie to be a "two hit wonder". Their power ballad "The Power of Love" was pretty big.

Tough to call a band thats been together for 35 years a one hit wonder however, they are pretty much only known for one song....
Proco Harem - Whiter Shade of Pale.
Was my wedding song......to this day, neither my wife nor I have any idea what the song is about!!!
As a local plug...The Dino Martini's did a great job of it considering they'd rehearsed it once prior to our big day.

Here's a page dedicated to deciphering those lyrics:

Come On Eileen Lyrics
Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
Moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers cried
Sang along, who'd blame them
Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever
Go toora loora toora loo rye aye
And we can sing just like our fathers
[Chorus:]
Come on Eileen, oh I swear (what he means)
At this moment, you mean everything
With you in that dress my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty
Ah come on Eileen
These people round here wear beaten down eyes
Sunk in smoke dried faces
They're so resigned to what their fate is
But not us (no never), no not us (no never)
We are far too young and clever
Remember
Go toora loora toora loo rye aye
Eileen I'll hum this tune forever
Come on Eileen oh I swear (what he means)
Ah come on, let's take off everything
That pretty red dress Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, Ah come on Eileen
That pretty red dress, Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, ah come on Eileen
Please...
Come on Eileen too-loo rye-aye
Come on Eileen too-loo rye-aye
Toora toora-too-loora
Now you have grown, now you have shown, oh Eileen
Come on Eileen, these things they are real and I know
how you feel
Now I must say more than ever
things round here have changed
Too-ra loo-ra too-ra loo-rye-aye
Not dirty, except for "With you in that dress my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty".

They had another hit song with I Want To Live (just a little bit more) a couple years later.

Yeah, I think we know what you are getting at. However, it's a pretty common phrase and judging by the lyrics, if you think it's a dirty song then you are likely reading too much into it.
If I remember correctly, there were several women in the band and they all looked like a bunch of farmers.
If it was Motley Crue, I'd agree with you. But it's not.

A popular hit in the 1960's, during the Vietnam War, Staff Sargeant Barry Sadler with: "Silver Wings." On satellite, old Ed Sullivan shows come on and I taped Sadler singing this one (yes, that's how lifeless my life is!!).
http://my.homewithgod.com/heavenlymidis/USA/beret.html
Another one, The Singing Nun, Jeaninine Deckers, Soeur Sourire ("Sister Smile"), with the song "Dominique" in 1963. Very popular at the time.

There was also a Japanese language hit on American charts in the 1960's which I can't quite remember right now.
Big hits but one time wonders.

oh jeez I hate it when it takes this much effort to explain a joke. :darnkids:
And troutman, none of those are as good as Come on Eilieen, although Don't Come Around Here No More is rather amusing when you put it that way.
