I wrote my Alderman as well. The response:

Good morning Jason,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with the Ward 6 office. Please be advised that Alderman Burrows shares your views and is currently lobbying for the final vote needed. He would like to see the smoking ban in place as soon as possible.

Regards,

Karen McKay
Community Liaison
Ward 6

Hopefully, his lobbying does some good!

It's still good to email your Alderman; even if they are currently in favour of making the date sooner. If it comes down to a close vote; it will be harder for them to sway if they know what we think.

I didn't get a reply to my email.

My alderman is very poor.

From the tone of this email from his executive assistant ("your comments have been filed"), it sounds like Barry is not in support:

"Thank you for your email. Alderman Erskine is in meetings for the day. In response, your comments have been copied and will be provided for the Alderman's review. Your comments will also be included, and remain in our files, as part of the issue information as it this item comes forward for future discussion."

Focus your emails on guys like him...don't forget the mayor too.

Safe to say if you do not get a response, you can assume they DO NOT support a smoking ban.

I can say that the smoke-free ban in Edmonton (since July 2005) has allowed me to watch non-televised Flames games at at bars with American satellite.

I'm allergic to smoke, and just can't stand it.

Hopefully Calgary butts out in 2007. Sent my email.

I can't recall who was for or against exept one. Bronco was the tie breaker and he voted to extend it to 2008. The bar businesses were crying that they'd lose business (which makes no sense to me at all when 70% + of your potential clientel do NOT smoke)

I use to be a big smoker but I have quit for over 1 year and glad Calgary is doing it. After a night of hanging out in a Calgary bar my lungs felt shot the next morning.

I think smoking on the patio should be allowed. In Vancouver they banned it and when I was use to smoke I was pretty ****ed you had to go outside in the winter away from the heaters and shelter from the rain.
