I love the new Eclipse. Lots of power, and relatively cheap. I own a 2005 Nissan 350Z, and there are a lot of similarities between the Eclipse and the 350Z. For the money, I think an Eclipse is an excellent deal.

Well, they do put salt down on the road in Calgary up to -15c and I'm pretty certain the current car I have would have been rusted if I hadn't done the undercoating. Right now it doesn't hav a rust spot on it and it's 6 years old. What they are doing is warranting my car against rust or paint damage by doing this and if anything happens, it's on them, not me. At least that's how they put it to me.
Until I posted it here, I got a positive response from everyone on getting those two things done. I'm interested to find out why CP is so against it?

The etching is terrible and they never even suggested it to me. Had they, I'd have laughed out loud at them and walked out of there before they could blink. The thing with the rust and paint protection is, and I agree fotze it is cheaper aftermarket, but warranty and re-application are important here.
You guys can correct me if I'm wrong here, and please feel free to do so, but there's no warranty if I do it aftermarket. Also, where in the city can you pay to have the paint and rust protection and for the life of it, you can take it back and have it re-done for free? It certainly didn't work that way back home where every two years I had to pay over $100 to get the undercoating.
Part of the deal is I can get vinyl/leather and fabric protection as well, for an additional cost. To me, that's the one that sounded like the sham. I can take care of the inside of a car with ease as I've been doing it since I got my first car. I'm not paying for that, although the other two I feel I should. I suppose I could do the paint protection myself too, if I had the right set-up where I could wash it every week or two and wax it every 3 weeks or so. But, I don't have that set-up as I'm limited for space and whatnot.
Also, being that the car comes with three seperate warranties, one of which is a 10-year powertrain, it's for certain I will be dealing with Platinum for the lifespan of the time I have the vehicle, which I expect to be 5 or 6 years unless a major accident occurs. Knowing that I'll be with them for that long, why would I instantly take it somewhere else to have work done? To me that adds up but if you guys want to convince me otherwise, I'd genuinely love to hear the reasons behind it.

They are supposed to be good cars.
BUt the thing about Mitsubishi that has always scared me is they have been caught falsifying safety and quality data on more than one occassion. True the executives and managers repsonsible have been fired and now sued by the company but it went on for some time that it makes me uncomfortable to consider a vehicle from them.

Good call to not get the GT.
260hp out of a nearly 4L engine is not a good thing!

How about 200+hp out of a 1.6L engine then, is that bad?

In talking to some others, I think you guys were right about not getting the paint and rust protection warranties. If I take the time to do all this stuff myself, at least then I'm sure it's being done right. Kind of the same idea with the fog lights. They'd probably ask $300 or more to put them in and I can buy them for $150, maybe less. The wiring is already there so I can install them myself.
One of my biggest concerns was in regards to rust and driving on salty winter roads. But the most simple solution is to take it to the car wash more often and make sure the underneath gets sprayed really good.
Auto tranny because of city driving. Less horse-power because I'm not interested in dying. Those were simple decision.
Oh, and I also wanted to say that if anyone does know a good deal here in town on undercoating or rust protection, I'd love to know of it. It's still something I'd be looking for by the time winter comes.

I'm going to give you the smart-ass answer.
It all depends on when I pay it off.
The amount of interest I pay on the loan is what will in the end, determine how much of a kick in the balls it was, or how much I paid for it. I had a plan and it may have been a flawed one, but I stuck with it based on my first experience of buying a car. Put down a fairly large chunk of cash, trade-in my car and spread the payments out over 5 years. By doing so, I make the payments small so in the meantime I can save, save, save like a busy little bumblebee and for each of the next 3-4 sets of 6 month periods, I can slam down another payment, paying it off in potentially less than two years and decreasing that interest with each passing payment.
All told I'm not quite sure of the exact dollar figure, I have to go over it in specifics with the Business manager at Platinum when the car arrives in town. It's quoted on the website at the correct price when you put the sun and sound option on and the sporttronic shift. I stayed away from accessories though, you can get OEM after market way cheaper. $31,293 is the listed price. But there are other things they don't like to inform you of, specifically things such as tire tax and "documentaion fees".

Shop around for finance rates!
When I got my truck in January, the dealership was quoting 7.9% (!), so I told them I would look around. The dealer (Heninnger) then called back to say, "Good news! You've been approved for 7.7%" I spoke to First Calgary, they advised me they could beat that in the branch, but would do even better if the dealership put it though First Calgary's auto loans department (that the dealers work through). That put the rate at 5.4%.
So that is 2.5% lower than the dealership offered in the first place, even though the First Calgary rate was available the entire time. The dealership's finance department are just as big salesmen as the car salesmen.
