Just incase they monitor my internet use... SHAW IS AWESOME!!!
(Translation... Like Photon said... lesser of the two evils.)
PS - If you go Shaw, get the extreme. Downloads much quicker, slightly noticable on the web viewing too.

A guy I work with had Shaw Hispeed put into his place. As it turns out the guy he lives with had been getting free cable for 6 months. When Shaw came in to install the internet they noticed this and are now trying to back charge him for 6 months of T.V. that he never ordered and he's only lived at this place for a month before he got the internet put in there. I also have other story's about Shaw that I can't share in a public form like this. They're every bit as bad or worse than Telus. Actually I'd say they're worse.

I somewhat doubt they would have done anything if I went over again.

Your doubting would eventually land you without an internet connection. I work for Telus and it is not uncommon to disconnect users if they are abusing their bandwidth priviledges.

So, moral of the story......... if you are getting cable and not paying for it, you should disconnect the TV before inviting that company into your house.

They both have horror stories. I know people who have switched both directions, and they always tell me how much better this one is. It doesn't seem to matter if it was Shaw/Telus/Rogers or Bell.
The only common thing was they had a problem and ended up POed at whatever company they were with, so they switched.

i have had both telus and shaw. SHAW came to physically repair my internet 10x (literally NO exaggeration) and it was still broken). It went down so much and they had sooo many billing problems that i switched to telus. telus never geos down and their customer support is much better IMO.
Mind you for speed shaw kills telus. But thats not everything if the internet doesn't work.

Exactly!! I like Telus because they don't insist on coming into my house and spying on me and seeing what I have. They send you the motem in the mail and let you hook it up yourself. Shaw insists that their guy come in and do it. Really all he's doing is spying on you and what you have. Hell he probably calls his thief buddy's and lets them know if your house is worth breaking into.

They both suck, but Shaw is faster (especially with I-Extreme) and the lesser of two evils IMO.

What is this I-Extreme? I have never heard of it. Is it an upgrade?

Well, this just in...
"Starting today, new clients in BC and Alberta will receive a free Dell computer when they sign up for High Speed Enhanced Internet on a 3-year rate protection plan. Clients can also get TELUS High Speed Lite Internet for a low price of $15.95 per month"
A free Dell computer. Crazy. I have no idea if that includes the monitor or not.

I finally got high speed a few weeks ago (yes, I live in a small town).
Had to go with Shaw, since Telus doesn't have high-speed here yet. My parents have Telus, and it seems like Shaw might be slightly faster. No problems so far, although it's early.
Kind of strange Telus is throwing around free gifts to lure customers. How many customers are they losing lately for them to have to do this?
Plus, I like my computer, I don't need a new one.

Its actually a matter of retaining customers. We offer a gift but to get the gift you have to sign up for 3 years in this case and stay with telus or else pay the penalty for leaving. Corporations like Telus and Shaw lose Millions of dollars setting up brand new service for someone who leaves them for and price that may be a couple of dollars sheaper or 2 months free. If you guarentee that the majority of customers signing up for gifts are going to stay with you for at least 3 years it makes sense from a business standpoint.

Well, this promotion would certainly solve the, "But I don't have a computer" hurdle when selling internet, wouldn't it?
It can't be a great machine though ... probably not even worth your time if you've bought one within the last 3 years.

I don't like to sign contracts you stuck with the service no matter what quality of service you recieve. Shaw costs a little bit more but is so much faster. Both services can be good it just matters what area you are in. If I moved to a new house I might try both for a month or so and choose.

I looked at it, it seems like a good basic budget machine with a 17"CRT monitor. For someone starting or not planning on gaming it would work well.

Here's the thing that sort of "proves" my opinion of Shaw being better. For a while Telus has offered freebies to get people to sign up. iPods, LCD monitors, now an entire computer. Whereas Shaw just keeps offering their regular product.
And even with this computer being better than what I am currently using, I'm not even tempted to switch.
