We saw Superman today..it was very long but well worth the 7.50..the plot twist is one you can see a mile away but will have some significance on future sequels..and Brandon Routh looks so much like Christopher Reeves you almost couldn't tell them apart when he appears as Clark

I saw it last night.. I was good but not great. I love Superman and I liked the movie but it didn't blow me away like the first Spiderman movie did.

I think my expectations may have been too high though.

Saw it last night, I thought it was great. Good story and this time SUperman did have some real life problems in this one. Thought Brandon Routh nailed the role, he was very good, Kevin Spacey was good too. So far, my favorite of the blockbusters, having said that, I wasnt a fan of X-Men, didnt mind MI3 and thought DaVinci Code was good at best. Miami Vice is next on my list of movies to see on opening night and wait in line for.

You are kidding right? That movie will be in the $6.88 bin at Wal-Mart by Christmas.

man, i thought it was awful. Way too much downtime for this type of movie. The biggest action sequence in this movie happens in the first 15 minutes, and from there, it just seems to fizzle out.

The biggest thing that bothered me though was Lois Lane. I thought she ended up coming across as a total bitch, bad mother, and quite the two-timer. Love interests have to come across a bit more down-to-earth IMO, and Lois was definitely not.

Brandon Routh did a fairly good job though, he was atleast likable.

With Michael Mann directing, this will be a huge hit and no way in hell you will see this in a bargain bin. He can't screw this up.

Precisely. Michael Mann knows how to make movies like this. For instance - Heat.

This is not going to be a lame remake of a 80s TV Show. It will likely have a very different feel. The Miami Vice is just the "hook" for the movie to attract the audience. I love the look of the film based on what I have seen so far...

I thought Kate Bosworth was pretty terrible as Lois, actually. I never thought I'd be wishing for Margot Kidder, but she was so flat that I just couldn't bring myself to care about her little moral dilemma.

It was a bit of a problem that her husband/fiance was so likable. Poor James Marsden is by now virtually typecast in the role of superhero's ####old, after X-Men 3. And just in case we were missing the sexual overtones, that was put to rest when Superman takes Lois "flying."

Lois: Richard takes me flying all the time.
Superman: Not like this. (sly smile)

I wasn't thrilled by the movie, but I was entertained. As I mentioned, I did a review for the local paper that I'll link--but it's nothing too exciting, just a 680 word blurb. The paper requested a quick write-up, mostly because Brandon Routh is an Iowan.

Not only did Marsden have the same kind of character in regards to the guy with the girl that the good guy wants in Superman and X-Men, he also had the same role in The Notebook.........errrr.....I mean I didnt see that movie.

Took the words that I was too lazy to write an hour ago. Exactly. Other great Mann movies, Last of the Mohicans and my personal favorite Mann movie, The Insider.

Saw it yesterday. It was fun, but fell short of what it could have been IMO. Too many plot holes, and a little too much angst (the writers must have been watching too much Smallville).

Still, FAR FAR better than X3.

Routh was decent, and his voice sometimes made it sound like Reeve was the one doing the scene. Lots of homage to the original movies, though I'm split on that. It was fun to see it be similar, but I think they could have updated the whole image and done even better.

I enjoyed the extended plot, to me these movies should be about the human condition first and the action second.

Luthor was bang on to the original, though again I prefer the Luthor in the modern cartoons or even Smallville.

Overall, 7/10. Worth an afternoon.

Worst part of it was reading the director saying they wanted to stick as close to real physics as possible, but they did a horrible job of that.

And a funny bit about Superman's ability to procreate by Larry Niven:

Yeah, it's too heavily reliant on the 1978 movie that it even brings back some campy parts or reused plotlines and cliches. That disappointed the most.

I thought it was alright, not great but just alright. Spacey plays a great villan as always and I also thought that they were really trying to get Superman to be like Reeve.

Man that movie was lame as are most of the attempted blockbuster movies lately, plot twists you see coming 40 minutes before, repeating the obvious so everyone can get it (pst people aren't that stupid - i hope) like "weren't there two dogs". Even failed to have decent action, at least the last x-men movie had that. Anyone who hasn't seen it save your money.

Yeah, the airplane scene wasnt good action. come on man. That scene was intense.

Anyone who hasnt seen it, go see it, great action, good story and contrary to FG's comment about the plot holes, there isnt any. I think I know which one he was thinking about, Im not gonna write it because I dont wanna spoil anything, but FG......have an imagination. It's a Superman movie, it's fantasy, reality doesnt always have to play here.

dont you think its a little weird that they blew their load in the first 15 minutes though? Nothing after that portion comes even close in terms excitement or action. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting and then all of a sudden the credits roll.
