I just hope this doesn't become a pandemic until our anti-science, anti-expert provincial government is removed from power.

Am I evil for looking forward to the positive effect it will have on traffic? That was my favourite thing about the last pandemic, at least for the first few months.
Also, going to Costco today. Too early to invest in toilet paper?

It's never too early lmao. Gotta remember that a stiff breeze can send the genpop into a panic frenzy these days. Stock up if you've used the last of your previous stockpile.

Once pasteurized the virus likely wouldn't be able to be detected. They're not doing it because of risk to humans, they're trying to quickly find sources of potential livestock infection

The nice thing about bird flu is that we can eliminate much faster than COVID. Flu was essentially non-existent during COVID and that was with low vaccine uptake. Have a virus that kills and we will see 80% plus vaccine rates.
Its R-value and method of spread is much lower than Covid.
Covid in many ways was the perfect storm of virus. Low enough virulence to make people not afraid of it. When you have a 30% kill rate and killing young people you would have effective lockdowns and better vaccine uptake.
We also have vaccines currently available that can fight these strains and are building new vaccines specific to the current strain.
The main threat here if we get wide scale spread will be stupid people

Yes pasteurization kills viruses. This is surveillance to locate outbreaks not protect people.
