My church doesn't promote it (CRC) the church I grew up in doesn't promote it (Lutheran), the church my wife attended when she was in Edmonton doesn't promote it (Baptist?... I can't remember). I know of other denominations that don't promote it. I do know that it used to be promoted, but not anymore. It is all matter of personal preference now.

Pretty sure there have been and yes it does decrease sensation.
I figure leave it and let the lil guy make his own choice later. You can't get it put back on when you're older. I thought they were on the decline anyways and that most kids aren't now?

This is probably for the dirty little secrets as well but, I really don’t know if I have had one or not, I just don’t know what the producer entails, and I really don’t have the relationship with my parents to just ask them, I have been living in the dark my whole life and I am 19 years old! It’s bad I know, I don’t think I have had one, but when I was younger my family was of the Mormon faith so I don’t know if they are about it or not…

I am absolutely, 100% against circumcision. This is coming from someone who was circumcised as an infant.
Why would you want to deprive your son 30% of the sensation on his penis?
I think it's garbage to rationalize that it is because of the reduced risk of infection. You have to take charge of your son's hygiene in this area until he is old enough to do it himself. Yes, it would not be one of the most fun things about being a parent but it has to be done so just do it. Instill a sense of hygiene in your son so that he takes care of himself. Use scare tactics if you have to but don't mutilate him in order to make your life easier.
If the mother is so adamant that her son be circumcised then ask her this question. Would you be so quick to advocate the removal of the labia of your daughter if you were given the choice? Then why would you suggest the same type of deal for your son?

Well, my wife and I had this debate before our son was born. If it was a boy (we didn't find out) I said no and my wife said yes. My wife wanted our son to "match" daddy so there were no awkward questions when we bathe/shower together or are just naked or whatever. (lots of nudity in the Frank household)
I said "no" because my brother isn't chopped, and there was never any awkwardness while growing up. And, its a useless, painful procedure.
So fast forward. We have a son, my wife demands it gets the choppy-chop, I voice my displeasure but realise I will not win this war against the most stubborn female creature ever to walk this earth, and she takes him to get it done. I refuse to go.
Since its been done, nothing but problems. The cut skin kept reattching to the....ummmm....eeeeer.......head, and we had to go back several times to have it yanked back down, bleeding like mad, son screaming cause his junk is being torn off. Ya, I was reeeeeeeeal happy. And, he is almost 2 and its STILL not right.

The answer: toque.

J pold...here's how to tell:
1. Watch some porn
2. Compare your wee (flacid) to the guy on the popo
3. If your wee looks like his, the answer is you are circumsized. If your wee looks like a pencil with broken lead, you are not.

Insensitive much? If a guy has only ever seen one penis in his life, how is he supposed to know what the difference is?
I will leave out the name calling that could start if somebody were to start calling you an expert on penises.
J Pold, if the examples others have given you don't give you a clear understanding, go to www.webmd.com Type in "Circumcision" in the search, and click on the first topic. There is an informative article, and links to pics. I'm not going to post the entire link because it might not be allowed here.

Isn't that, by far, the most important question here?
If I can save my kid 3% in his chances of getting an infection, but reduce his sexual pleasure by 20%, am I doing him a favour?
|
3% vs. 20%. You are leaving something out. What if your boy ends up being the type where that extra 20% sexual pleasure is too much? By having him circumsized, you may be saving him from nicknames such as "one pump" and "Jason Biggs" in high school.
