Every Eastern team gets a Saturday time slot on CBC.

actually, you sort of can, considering they are a public network who's intent is to forego commerical ventures, and instead focus on providing content for everyone. If they were a private company making money, sure, show the Leaf games. But since they are not, it's hard to justify the misbalance.

It only happened a few times this year but when it's a national network you'd think it would be considerate to this side of the country.
not gonna argue that one, i agree with you there. it can be quite frustrating.

I enjoy the CBC and most of their programs and I think we should keep it. The hockey programming is world class, there is some good comedy, and most the the documentaries are very interesting. The CBC is different from most other channels and it is nice to have another option and type of network.

that's a fantastic arguement, you win. let's sell the cops, roads, citizens, and army to the private sector while we're at it too! hell, let's sell the flag, I'm sure we can get some cash for it. less government, people! it's a fire sale, everything must go! woot!

Stay, for sure. I personally really enjoy watching CBC and would be pretty disappointed if they were sold / lost more funding / etc. It sure would be nice to see fewer leafs games, though - but as other posters have already said, that's their biggest market (supposedly).

I also agree that I don't want to watch a whole lot of fancy graphics and camera angles, flashy this, and flashy that, when I'm trying to watch a hockey game. The only thing I would change would be to make every game in HD and widescreen (and make my TV show it that way!)

CBC is probably my number three viewed channel after CTV and TSN. I watch HNIC, Air Farce, 22, JFLG, RMR and often the National. I also have to admit that I like to watch The Hour (although it's on Newsworld, not the CBC). W-Five is also a very good show.

I don't see how one could even think of ditching the CBC. Lots of good programming, great news coverage and unparalleled sports presentations.

Agreed, keep it, though at times, I almost wish they would lose their hockey rights to a better company like CTV/TSN.

They still help in uniting this spread out country and I would miss them.
uhhh... The US has PBS which is vastly superior to CBC in every way, except obviously sports broadcasting. I think the CBC shoudk stay, but should be pulled off the government teet and become like the PBS, supported by donations. I think that the quality would go WAY up and the political rhetoric that has creeped into cbc would go WAY down.

PBS is vastly superior? I don't know about you, but having my programming interrupted every 15 minutes for a donation spiel is not the most entertaining way to spend a night of tv watching. And while PBS isn't bad, it's nowhere as diverse in its lineup.

And btw, PBS receives federal government money, just like the CBC.

W-Five is CTV but is very good. Perhaps you are thinking of The Fifth Estate which continually produces some of the best documentaries in this country.

CBC should stay - if it can survive in the private market. My tax dollars should not be paying for a station that produces 162 hours of crap a week, and only cares about ratings from 5:00-8:00 every Saturday night.

Why do people think that they should only pay for things they use? Does EVERYTHING in our world have to make business sense? Aren't there things out there that we can support for the greater good of our society? I don't go to the library that often, but I still support the library system as it helps kids become more educated. I don't drive in the N.E that much anymore because of my S.W location, but still think its important for people there to have roads and schools. I haven't used the bike path in the city for ages, but I'll support it's expansion because it helps keep our citizens healthy.

Sure the CBC might not always produce stellar shows 24 hours a day, but it has some damn good programming. Its international sports and news coverage helps us be more aware of our world. You hardly see anything international on the news in the U.S unless it involves America somehow. It doesn't make business sense for them, so they don't show it....and their viewers are less knowledgable as a result. The CBC on the other hand is more worldy, and always has great documentaries about stories from around the world. As a Canadian who lives in the U.S these days, I miss the CBC more and more.

CBC should stay. It's a national media outlet that you can actually recieve in almost every part of the country. Yeah, for people in the cities there are often better options (although I prefer their national news to the other big stations), but for people who live in the boonies the CBC provides a service. There may be a whole lot of problems with the way they waste money, but it sure beats having another channel bringing us 3 hours of CSI every night.

I don't understand all the hate for the CBC. We are bombarded every day with Americanisms and all their crap, I like having a Canadian-based media outlet, cause, well, I'm Canadian....

I like the sports on CBC but I just wish they would make the network profitable instead of dumping tax payers dollars into it.
