Wiggers? You're going to blame rap music and all the black artists for making music and wearing clothes a certain way that white people tried to immitate?

I really think people around here should stick to talking about hockey.
Woah woah, hold off with the wild accusations there cowboy. Cheese can field his own responses to this if he wants but it sounds like you're calling him a racist.

As to the second part of your post I definately think rap music or more specifically rap music videos are to blame for the current trend of white Canadians acting in a particular manner that have no reason to do so. Muchmusic and other media like it are the only way a lot of kids see African-American culture (at least what the TV wants them to see). If they aren't responsible for this trend then who is?

Before I get jumped on I just want to say that I have nothing against other cultures or any facet of life that makes people different from one another. I do, however, hate people acting in such a way that is really not them. The so called "wiggers" is a perfect example of this.

You're going to say nothing good has come of the music in the last 5 years, and then when I show you that plenty has, your counter-argument is that you listened to rap BEFORE that!? Not only are you not making any sense, you're just making yourself look dumber by the second. Call me ignorant because of that? Haha, go right ahead!

Then you claim that you never said all rap sucks? Your exact words were "Man, rap sucks." You're telling me people are going to look at that and say "Ohh right, rap sucks, but that definetly doesn't mean that rap music sucks. That must mean that only a part of it sucks. It also means that alot of it is insightful and thought provoking. Yeah. Yeah, that's what he means by 'rap sucks'." Again, you've just displayed how stupid you really are. If I come out and say "white people are idiots". Hey, I didn't say that ALL white people are idiots, so yeah, that can't have been what I meant. God, why would anybody even think that, or be upset by it? If they have anything to say about me saying they're idiots, they must be blowing it out of proportion.
Are you really having that much trouble reading between the lines that you need me to clarify? Rap has been on a steady decline since the mid-90s. You can show me all the evidence you want but the fact is, what's being marketed to the masses is a farce and an affront to the genre and music itself. Clearly you are ignorant as you seem to have no idea what an offhand comment is. Everybody else took what I said with a grain of salt.

Man. You really like stereotyping don't you? How about, I take a whole bunch of white people out of europe, outlaw the language they speak, their religion, and any other cultural rituals, then convert them to a religion of my choosing. Then, I dehumanise them to the point where they would want their skin colour to be the same as mine because I've taught them that they are inferior. Then, have half of them die from disease because they're living and sleeping in their a small room with their own excrements while I drag them across the ****ing ocean on a boat. Then, with those who survive, how about I sell them to people who will beat them and overwork them? Then, generations later, when I eventually free them, and they have absolutely nothing in their pockets, no reperations of any kind regardless of what's been done to them and their ancestors, and everybody around them sees them as scum, how about I expect them to abide by the rules of my government?
I never said black people haven't had rough go of it, but since everyone can see the path you're headed down, why don't you just come right out an call me a racist cracker. Not only that, but this argument doesn't even belong here. You're telling me I should feel sorry for some thugs who can't abide by the laws of society, even the basic ones, such as not killing people? You're being twice as stereotypical as I am by saying black people are completely useless and have no way of rising above their situations. You said rap was the voice of the people, what kind of voice condones shooting, stealing, drug-dealing, etc?

Quote:
You are an idiot.
Because name-calling is so mature.

Wow, you really are stupid. I really didn't think I'd have to elaborate. What I meant was, your attack on rap was an attack on art that has importance to a culture you don't belong to and that you don't understand. When I told you to attack Kung-Fu, essentially, I was saying, "Why not chinese people next?"
Ok so what's wrong with Celtic music since it basically covers both of those things?

Sterotypes do not represent the entire population of whatever culture your talking about. But I do have to admit that sterotypes come around becuase there a quite a few within that population that conduct themseleves as to what the stereotype is suggesting.

1) Almost everybody else here is biased and hates rap.
2) Pop has gone hip hop. Hip hop has not gone pop. Mindless hip hop acts have been selling millions of records. Unfortunately, contrary to your beliefs, hip hop has not been on a decline. Sure, garbage acts may have been surfacing, but true lyricists are stronger than ever and subject matter is still present. Plenty of rappers are offering great music, but again, you don't hear it because other music is popular, so you assume it must be on a decline.

HAHAHAHA, I'm being twice as stereotypical!? I said many rappers are revolutionaries, and you counter with "How many of them are criminals?". Then I say, can you really blame a guy who's got absolutely nothing for not having any motivation to play fair after living his entire life poor in a country that was built on his ancestors' slave labour. "How many of them are criminals?" You make me sick, what was done to the African-American and Caribbean races is criminal. Why don't you think about that for a little while. You say that I'm suggesting black people can't rise above their current situation? I'm asking you why they're in their current situations. In case you can't come up with the answer, I'll give you a big hint, the white man's greed. And then I'm saying that getting caught up in a short-cut happens, and I can understand wanting to take a short-cut after going to ****ty schools, wearing dirty clothes, and eating next to nothing all your life. Yeah I said rap was the voice of the people, and you asking me what kind of voice condones killing, stealing, trafficking is just another example of your ignorance. You think that's all the music is about? Are you sure you used to listen to rap?

Whatever was done in the past is done. Thats the problem with society today, we live in the past. It does not give any right to ANY person to commit ANY crime. Pure and simple.

I was backing you up there a bit but now you are going of the deep end.

The white kids dressing, talking or acting that way are to blame? You don't see me piercing everything, wearing crazy make-up or anything like that so I can be like Marilyn Manson or KISS or those other crazy musicians? People are always going to imitate celibrities, it's up to you to do whatever you believe is right.

Jesus buddy, calm down.

It's hardly racist to dislike a certain genre of music.

If a guy doesn't like country music and calls it crap, does that mean he doesn't like white people? What if the guy is white? What about a black guy who doesn't like rap music? Would you give him one of your enlightening history lessons?

Anyhow, put me on the non-crap side of the ledger. One of my favorite bands make with the rap-rap. I hope the fact that they are 3 honky Jewish guys doesn't disqualify me.

That wasn't the point of it. It's a political "rap" with "intelligence". It was posted to prove a point. Although I'm sure most won't take the time to read to the second line.

I think rap is like every other genre. Some of it is crap, some of it isn't. I agree it reached its peak in the 90's though.

Techno is the only genre (is it even one?) that I think is entirely garbage.

The problem is the only good "rap" is not on TV or the Radio. You have to go looking for it to find it and you're not going to do that if you don't have a habit of listening to it to begin with.

Well I'm a fan....been that way for awhile now. Granted 90% of it has turned into mainstream crap, but there's still some good stuff out there. Talib comes to mind right away...Not sure about Ice Cube's latest album, but there are a few select artists worth checking out.
And it really doesn't bother me that most people here aren't a fan of rap, most people I work with are the same. Can't get into an argument cuz someone has an opinion? Or can you?

Anyways, in answer to the question...No, Rap is not Crap....now country is a whole different thread.
