I love Hoegarden. I had some white beers in Germany, but can't remember the brand. They may have been micro brews but damn they were good. Have to agree with everyone on the micro's from Quebec as well. Just awesome choices in Quebec as far as beer goes.

Warsteiner is all over calgary's stores and it happens to be one of the best beers out there.

If you haven't already I'd recommend to give it a try.

Steinlager! A yummy export of New Zealand. Great for a hot summer day.

I love Hoegaarden. It is very different than other beer, and makes a nice change.

I will be sure to look for a few of the others mentioned.

It's really bugging me that I can't remember the name of it. I'll be going to the booze store this weekend, I'll see if I can find it to let you know what it was called.
definitely an Innis Gunn

these are good...have a few in my fridge right now...

although they go for >3 bucks a bottle

Try Harp, imported from Ireland.
Better on tap, but still very yummy in the bottle.

The alcoholic beers you're thinking of are probably La Fin du Monde and Maudite. Both are over 10%, I believe.
I think Maudite is 8%, La Fin du Monde is 10% and the newer one from Unibroue is Trois Pistole which is 12% if I remember correctly. Never really liked any of them because they have a potent aftertaste.

A really good one I've tried lately is Grolsch. It's a lighter beer from Poland or Holland or something but it was tasty.

As for Belgian beers, I can't really stomach more than a pint of them at a time. The Chimay Cap's are alright but extremely fruity tasting (pretty much the same as most Belgian beers) and Delirium is simply terrible. The amount of sedimentation is sickening, I highly recommend not pouring it out of the bottle if you have to try it. At least then you don't notice the chunks in the bottom because the bottle has a stucco type coating you can't see through.

To continue on the Hoe topic...I received 2 of these from a friend. I started drinking one and thought it had a funny, unique, interesting taste to it. Unfortunately, after getting through about half of it, I realized that I hated the funny, unique taste.

The other bottle...it's the only beer that's ever lasted longer than a month in my fridge. I expect it's gone bad by now (5 months later), but I'm still planning to pawn it off on some unsuspecting friend...

Red Cap is kind of fun to drink. They put it in those old style stubby bottles. It's out of Ontario and I think they make one other beer in a stubby bottle.
At first I could only find it at a little liquor store on 4th St SW but it's starting to show up all over the place.
If you go down to the U.S. I suggest trying one called Pete's Wicked Ale.
It's somewhere in between Warthog & Traditional. Yum.
Rolling Rock was just purchased by Bud so maybe we'll start getting it up here. Oh, I forgot about Steamwhistle. Beer. I could talk all day about beer.

I agree on the erdinger.. I love that stuff, especially the dark one.
Hoegarden isn't bad, certainly a unique beer.
TheTsingtao in China is better than here
I find the highland park stores to be half decent for grabbing some different beers. Not as good as willow park, but willow park is awfully far away from me.

Yes! Liked that one. Found it at a liquor store just west of Mount Royal College a year or two ago. Dunno if they still sell it.

Not sure if the Kensington Wine Market is in range, but they also have a interesting selection of imported beer.

Yeah, I think it was Innes Gunn. Saw a picture of the bottle, pretty sure that's the one.

I'm going to the exact same liquor store this weekend, so I'll snoop around and clarify it was Innes Gunn, or let you know if it was something else.

Thanks for the positive identification!

bump!

I am sitting drinking Kilkenny for the first time and man, is this the best beer I have ever tasted. I love the creamy texture and nice after taste it leaves in my mouth. The foam tastes good, unlike alot of beers. Hmmm hmmm. Makes my alcoholic taste buds get rowdy like the Irishmen in me. I want to drink more and more! Whooo. It should taste good with the BBQ ribs...

My favourite import beer is Schönbuch Bräu which is brewed in Stuttgart, Germany (I think). I just loved this stuff when I was out there.

My other favourites are Löwenbräu and Hofbräu which are both brewed in Munich. The Hofbräuhaus in Munich was one of my favouite places in that country.

I am not a big wheat beer fan. It makes you full too fast. Although I did find a 2L beer bottle at a German grocery store. I put a normal sized beer bottle beside it when I took the picture just to show how big it really was.
