Teatros was very good food when I last dined there. Had an excellent meal at the Highwood the one time I was there. La Chammiere on 17th (previously mentioned and still probably spelled incorrectly) was quite cool, as far as ambiance, food, etc.
Last resort, take her to Wendy's and tell her all you could think about all these years was a "hot and juicy" lady like her.

River Cafe is great; excellent food, and personally I love the decor. More of a hunting/fishing lodge than a ski-lodge, but yes, it has that great rustic Canadiana feel to it.
Muriettas is very nice, too.
There's a fancy Italian restaurant in Bridgeland--don't remember the name of it, but whatever it is, avoid it. The portions are so ridiculously small. Wouldn't be a big deal if they were serving ahi or something, but for serving pasta, at least make sure that there's enough to cover the plate.
I'm also keen on Piqniq (just across from Muriettas). Especially if you like jazz music--have your dinner upstairs, and then go downstairs to the basement jazz club, beatniq. For scotch drinkers, Piqniq has some of the best per-glass prices anywhere in the city.

La Brezza might be the one you are talking about.... but I always liked their food and portion sizes. Haven't been there for a while, but they may have changed their portions since the General has closed for some time. Really enjoyed the several times I was there.
Isn't La Dolce Vita another one right closeby? That one seemed to have very small portions every time I was there. Perhaps that is the one you are thinking of.

La Brezza! didn't all the flames go there before? I kind of vaguely remember Marco and Doug Gilmour.

It's one in an old brick building on the east side of Edmonton Trail, only a block or so from Memorial. Maybe we were there on an off night--if you've been there several times and it's been good, that's probably better judgement than the one time I've been there.
Just thought of another good date spot: Victoria's. Show your girlfriend that you're comfortable with your masculinity! Food's good, not very expensive, and they've got some fantastic desserts. But when the waiter offers to 'get you in next door', you'll probably want to decline as it tends to ruin any sense of romance.

La Dolce Vita and La Brezza are on 1st Ave, around 9th St. Not too close to Edmonton Trail, several blocks off. I did enjoy La Dolce Vita as well, just found portions to be somewhat lacking when I went. NOT to say you can't try it.
Ville Firenze is at 610 1st Ave.. that is close to Edmonton trail. Perhaps that is the one you are thinking about Octo?

Not sure if you can get in these places on short notice, but worth a shot (assuming you have the money to burn, but seeing how it's the first anniversary, you'll need to drop some coin :biglaff
River Cafe (the one MMF was talking about)
Lacaille on the Bow
Perhaps Caesars or Hys?
Catch
who could forget the Calgary Tower?
|
River Cafe--it'd be my first choice, GREAT wine list
LaCaille on the Bow--Big waste of money, totally not worth it, avoid like plague
Caesar's--mmm....beef....not too romantic for an anniversary though I'd imagine
Hy's--see above...it's more suitable for a business lunch
Catch--Chef recently departed, don't know if it's as good as before anymore
Calgary Tower--Next to LaCaille probably the second biggest ripoff in the city
So yes, great choice if you picked River Cafe, you won't be disappointed (and neither will the wifey)

I have to say that my wife and I were not impressed at all by the River Cafe. Food was okay and expensive. Plus I was still hungry after my meal and I have a small appetite. But to each his own I guess.

river cafe, in princes island park? if thats the one then i gotta say it didnt work for me and my girl. great food not a bad price but the atmosphere was more of a ski lodge then a romatic setting.
Hys is good and the atmosphere makes for a nice date.
and for something more fun try sultans tent. maybe not for a aniversary but most girls seem to enjoy it simply cause its diferent. wash your hands for you and stuff like eating with your hands, kinda diferent.
|
You don't think a ski lodge is a romantic setting?
I'm a big fan of River Cafe. Great food that is somewhat unusual. And you get a filling meal.

Sultan's Tent. On 17th.
If it's full Jojo's or the other French Restaurant (either side of Sultan's Tent) are good second options. Emergency date restaurant lane.

I need some help here, It's my wedding anniversary tomorrow (I know, cutting it close), and I need to find a fancy place to take her to. I have a call in at the Highwood (great food, great prices)....but they are usually booked fairly solid. So I am calling on my Flame Fan brethren to give a guy a hand. I heard that there is a nice place somewhere in the south side near Fish Creek, but I'll be darned if I can remember.....anyone??
Thanks
|
The resturaunt at the top of the Calgary Tower is big pimpin'. Cost me and my girl about $60 including admission to the tower for lunch one time. Best view of the city by far. [/b][/quote]
Too bad the food is pretty below average for the high prices...

well if your skiing then ya its romantic but for an aniversary dinner i would say abit to casual of an environment. but i dont know his or your wife, maybe casual is more fitting for them. but most girls i know want something more candle lit, dark and intimate for special occasions, so i thought RC was not too romantical.
still pretty good food.
edit:hmm first try at the qoute function and i screwed something up
