I did like the achievments and unlocking aspect (althought I imagine most newer games have this). Don't know if anyone has it, but a training camp mode where you could evaluate players et al.

EA Sports franchise has been the best I have seen from a hockey perspective. It just needs some freshness added to it.

No. More. Catchup Code. And that whole "if you dive to block a shot or hook someone on a breakaway they automagically score" stuff neds to go.

Realistic goaltending (ie. not always stacking the pads, animations actually change and they try to react to a tip instead of just being locked on to the one they originally started...atleast have them flinch or something).

Realistic penalties (include double minors, allow bench penalties, realisitic instigators, call goalie interference, allow players to hit the goalie when they're inside/outside the crease)

Suspensions for cheap hits/unsportsmanlike conduct.

As noted about, realistic crowds and arenas would be a plus. And, somehow, realistic scoring/shooting. I've tried adjusting the current sliders and I still end up 50+ shots a game and atleast 4-5 goals.

Ah, and make shutouts possible as well. After probably 10 seasons of NHL 2006, I have got one shutout.

That is my rant

I would like to see.. once in a while a stick to break.. it never happens in the game. and also they need to fix the goalies.. they are just horrible with puck control behind and around the net.

That would be a good one.

Also a few years back you could get a penalty after the whistle. They need to bring that back.

I think its because they dont want to give a bad rep to the NHL. Thats why you wont see blood, broken sticks or anything that will give people a bad view on the NHL.

Your probably right about that. It sucks, just to try and bring some more American viewers onboard.

It was only because you were young when you played them... Play them now, they're aren't as epic as you'd remembered. lol

NHL 06 is pretty close to that style though with the right thumb dekeing.

I play 2-3 games of EA NHL 06 a day, love the game. I have a few points, some of which have already been mentioned.

1. Skill stick, I don't use it. Ever.

2. Defenseman pick bad times to head to the bench.

3. Opposing defensemen catch up to you on breakaways too easily.

4. Hate it when the other team goes into super mode and you know a goal is coming.

5. Deking with the left stick is great.

6. Almost impossible to get a shut out.

No kidding. And I hate how your goalie is a siv compared to the computer's. In my seasons Kipper will never make the All-Star team or win the Vezina because his save percentage is one of the worst in the league. The computer's goalie makes some amazing saves yet he'll let in floaters constantly.

Another thing I hate is wrap around goals by the computer. How many times do you see a goalie fall flat on his ass on a wrap around in real life leaving every corner open? Goalies should either be hugging the post on wrap arounds or sticking their pad out to block the puck.

I have to admit that I haven't played NHL 06 very much. But I think broken sticks would be a cool addition--and the one rule change that is basically irrelevant is the delay of game for shooting it over the glass. Currently, you can't shoot the puck over the glass, even if you do it on purpose.

Also, both on the "trade" screen and the "roster management" screen, the teams scroll too slowly, making roster management frustrating and slow. This might be a Nintendo problem, but if they could fix that, that would lower this aging game player's blood pressure somewhat.

somebody mentioned it earlier.... the goalies stack their pads every second shot... that has got to decrease

also, the free for 4 all was awesome in 05 but in 06 it sucked... pretty sure the only reason for that was that once you run outta turbo, it doesnt come back... i would play 06 for the gameplay, but when some buddys come over and we wanted to have a free 4 all, 05 went right back in...

and i know it wasnt in the last game cuz it was probably too short of notice, and i would fully assume it to be in this game... but there should be a slary cap in the dynasty mode..

Jordon, one thing I'd like is accurate team stats in Dynasty mode.

Let me elaborate: When I'm playing MVP Baseball 2005 and going through Owner mode, each player has career stats with which team they played for during each season. There wasn't anything like that in NHL 06. Just a minor quibble, but I like to be able to see where/when each player on my squad was acquired.

Other than that, I really enjoyed 06.

more blocked shots, realistic goalie saves, and try to incorporate "board battles" somehow, so if a puck is in a corner no one player gets possession of it unless they manage to kick it out to a teammate

i'm just tired of playing on expert mode and beating a team 21-7

- multi-player franchise / multiple seasons

- better sim engine: save percentages should be in the 90-91% range, not ~ 87%; PP stats need to be fixed, for years the only players who can get PP goals when simming are guys that had them the previous year...resulting PP's around the league are way too low around 10%

- player editor was going in the right direction...make it simple text-based so that we can go in and change positions / ratings without the game having to load a 3-D rendering of the player.

- fix the line editor: when simming multiple games, "auto" line combinations are eventually set. Why not make it a depth chart type of set-up like madden, ie. LW 1-4, RW 1-4 and so on, or even F 1-12, where the best four faceoff men get slotted in as the centers. Take it a step further and add PP and PK depth charts.

- goalie injuries (but why would they add that? Goalies never actually get injured in hockey).

- Improve franchies mode i.e. put in the salary cap

- Sim engine. I own 2k6 and the coolest (okay second coolest) thing about it is the fact that you can set the AI to be realistic, arcade, or combined.

- Love the fighting engine but there should be the option to try and throw a guy down.

- Crease Control in NHL 2k6 is awesome. They need to add something similar to the EA franchise.

I got rid of my ps2 a while back, but had NHL 06 for a bit. It was only fun to play against friends, against the computer was a complete joke, scores were rediculously high. They need better defensive and goaltending AI, that is a must.

They should really try to become the "winning eleven" of hockey games.

Oh yeah, and give me generic music any day over their pop punk soundtracks.
