the saudi regime is very rich and has carte blanche from uncle sam. there are many rich princes, a good portion of which export wahabbism at every opportunity.

new mosques being built in western europe, or pakistan, are built with saudi wahabbist money. these are the religious institutions that breed terror and instability in europe, from riots to killings to bombings, follow the money and it always leads back to saudi arabia.

the government in riyadh, even if people think of it as 'pro-western' (holy farce batman), is not in direct control of the money that leaves as 'charitable donations'. as long as no one challenges the saudi rule, then they are ok.

with 'allies' like this...

The problem is that the US is too far in bed with these guys. They don't have any fear of reprecussions from the international community. I think it's completely revolting that the Bush administration/family associates itself with these scumbags. Really a mark on your character when you support leaders who condone public beheadings. Mind you this is nothing new from Bush who also supported the Taliban pre-9/11.

True enough.

Question to throw out there. Where does a country draw a line? Canada does billions of dollars of trade with China. A country that is not so ship shape on human rights. Should we be trading with them? Not saying one way or the other but where do you draw the line?

I'd trade with China because they scare the crap out of me.

Call trade off with China until they get their human rights issues handled.

They're not going to nuke us because we quit trading with them.

No room for altruism in international relations. We can make money off of China, let's go for it.

I agree. Our economy needs China's trade. They are an developing country and we need to cash in on their growth. Hope that their human rights record continues to improve.
