but i haven't seen a mclaren in calgary either, point of fact i've seen maybe ~50 exotic cars in 8+ years here. not a hotspot for them, despite all the cash, what gives?

The SLR he speaks of is a Mercedes/Macleran . Interesting about the F1, as I was pretty sure those weren't street legal in North America.

oops, thought you meant that orange 'race version' mclaren f1 at the end of their very short production run.
haven't cracked a 'road & track' or 'car & driver' since they became 'sport utility monthly'.
they're sorta street legal, i think you have to insure them by the mile. i would think that most of them are trailer queens!
edit - i remember a company called 'ameritech' that imported them into the US with ugly ugly bumper additions.

It's amazing what $70 oil and six billion in options does to stoke the male ego.
The wealth in Calgary is absolutely amazing. We're not talking about one yellow Lambo, there's a whole pile here in this town.

Saw a yellow F430 Spyder a week ago in front of the office infront of Penny Lane. 45ish old Californian inspired tryhard at the wheel. A somewhat hot blonde (that I swear I've seen waitressing around town) about 27ish hops out and says "Thanks a lot for the ride, that was fun! See ya!" Then dissapears into the mall. Pretty obvious what his pickup line is....
9% of me was jealous.
90% of me couldn't stop laughing at the cheese factor and the cliche of the situation.
1% of me thought - $300,000 and that girl was the best you could do? (a horribly chauvinistic thing to say, I admit. But this 1% lurks in most men)

I know Dr.Hill (Grant Hill MP) used to own an Original 1950's in the early 90's and race it at Race City. Nothing like racing a 500K car for kicks.

Probably. In Lethbridge there is a Fiero that as turned into a Lamborghini with a kit... If you take a close look at it you'll notice that it is wider and more bulkier than a lambo. It is yellow for all you Lethbridgearianites.

Oil and gas employ plenty of business types. That Murray Edwards chap is even a lawyer.

You just need to hook yourself up with a startup oil and gas company. Make sure they agree to stock options and revenue sharing. My friend became a millionaire when a major oil & gas company bought out his company.

Weirdly enough, I saw three Lamborghinis yesterday - all silver. One of them was casually parked among very large, overflowing, gravel trucks at Burnco - now that's ballsy! I believe it was one of these (in silver):
Looks spectacular up close. Man, there is way too much money in this city.

There are SO many hot cars in Calgary these days.
On 17th ave the other day i saw 7 different Ferrari's in a 30 minute span.
It is getting to the point that you will see one REALLY hot car (Ferr, lambo,AMG's,Bently's,AustinM,etc) and not even notice the 10 semi-nice ones (new BMW's,Merc's, porches, etc) around it.
There is an internet picture from last year taken at Banff Springs Hotel of a car club drive with like 100 HIGH-end cars all parked.
And it is normal to drive down Stephen Ave in the evenings on the weekends and see 2 or 3 high-end cars parked in a ROW.
Crazy.
Claeren.

are you sure? i was certain that lotus was not in canada as of yet, there is no possible way to insure the car within the country.
but i did read somewhere that they were making a push and were planning on entering the country by around 2010, maybe earlier, with everything worked out with the government for insurance purposes
or i could be high as a kite and totally missed something

That's so true, a 911 barely raises an eyebrow anymore. Given the plethora of Ferraris around, I think I'd only really go ga-ga if it was an Enzo or a Veyron now. From a gawker's point of view anyways.

Across the street from my office here in Tokyo we have a high, high end car shop called "Bingo Sports". Lots of nice cars there, but the icing on the cake had to be the queue that formed outside the shop to get a view of a limited edition Bugati two weeks ago that had a price tag of over $1 million Canadian.
Apparently you get a first class ticket and a night in some ancient resort with the purchase of the car. Didn't find out if they just exhibited it or if someone actually bought it. Sort of like what Calgary sounds like it's becoming, in the central part of Tokyo a Civic is more unusual than a Mercedez nowadays.
