I'm a little confused here - the sauce is tasty right? Why would I have dashed expectations? Fotze's comment on what it looks like?

I think they just grill the steak (a tender cut) unmarinated and maybe put some sesame oil on when cooking..
and jordon, is this the runnier ginger sauce or the ticker much tastier sauce that looks like baby poo?

The Thicker one... I don't even touch the ginger sauce when I go there.

hahaha, true fotze.
I just read that they may build a new high rise where Japanese Village sits. I would've cared before I found this recipie but now... Not so much.
I actually made it today, Grilled Teriyaki chicken, grilled zuchini, onions. Made some rice. Ahhhh yeah.
I'm a white dude, but I love Asian food, Japanese, Dim-sum, Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian. Are my favorite foods.

Has anyone been to the sister restaurant Banzai in Southland Crossing? I'm thinking of heading there tonight if its the same concept as Japanese Village where they cook at the table etc.

Yes, I went there for the sauce. You can buy a bottle of it for like $8... or make it yourself for $1
It's decent. But I have no need for either place now.

Too salty
The sauce is good, no mistake about it. But I think its too salty with 2/3 cups of soya sauce I tried 1/3 cup of soya sauce, and it is better. Is the English mustard important or any dried mustard. Even added a little whipping cream,it thins it a bit. Good job guys !!!!!!!!!

I also lowered the soy sauce ammount. I'm thinking Light Soy Sauce will do the trick, less salt I think.

no no, not condiments. they definitely use some sort of bbq sauce. Next time you eat one, take a look at what your wrapped is stained in. it's quite delicious.

BOOM SHAKALAKA!
It's like finding the holy grail of sauces! You can make enough sauce for like $0.75 than spending $7 a bottle at Bonsai.
|
I first had this sauce after I had returned from my honeymoon in July of 1996. I could never find it again until I started going to Tokyo Express.
This is definitely the Caramilk secret of sauces. All hail he who has found it!

No, you don't want them to have that "roasted" taste. You barely want them to sizzle in the oven. like 2 minutes at 350 max.

It's the sweat dripping from the cooks into those nasty burgers.

Jap Sauce
I made that Japanese sauce 4 times last week. Followed the recipe to a tee, I have been trying to find the recipe for 30 year. I have been going to japanese village for 30 year. Every time I go I have the same thing, Cobe steak and that dippng sauce. The recipe posted is still not right. sorry guys, there is still something missing from the recipe, or the recipe needs ajustment. I can,t put my finger on the problem, but its not right. This is driving me nuts, I have never been so exited about a recipe in my life.

I think the secret is how you do the sesame seeds. DO NOT OVER COOK THEM. Just a tiny sizzle and they're done! You overcook them and it's just not right. Also make sure you use Japanese soy sauce (Kikoman).
I've made it about 8 times isince I posted this and I think i've gained like 10 pounds.. Thank god it's summer so I can rollerblade it off. But I get cravings for the stuff at like 2am.
Just pour some on some plain rice and you've got a meal right there.
I actually BBQ's Burgers, used teriyaki sauce on one side of the bun, and this sauce on the other and it was amazing!
