Personally, I have changed a lot as a fan. Maybe its part of getting older. But I used to care so much more. Right now I couldn't give a crap. They lost. I'll live. In fact, I haven't thought twice about it. Slept like a baby last night. My life is more important to me than some millionaire hockey players who are there to entertain us. Hockey is a great game, and its fun to watch, but its a game. Go out and live your life!

Amen, brother. I'm hoping to get there myself. After all, why should we torture ourselves over the outcomes of events we can't in any way control and that in no material way affect us?
Being a sports fan is a hobby. It "matters" in the same way that winning a poker tournament with your friends "matters." Losing sucks, but if you can't leave with a smile on your face, you shouldn't play.

Meh. When the team plays that poorly it is hard for me to get upset at the loss. We were clearly not the better team for the entire series. That makes things a little easier compared to the SCF in 04. That was a tough one. I do agree with Igottago's points.
I've said it here before, people's expectations of this team were WAY too high. All this talk about 'if they dont make the final, win the cup, win the conference I will be devastated and the season will be a writeoff' was so ridiculously over the top.
Anyway, positives? I get to shave...save some money...be more productive in general. Not all bad I guess. Oh, and the biggest positive? We didnt have to risk losing to the Oilers.

All I can say is, can't wait for the NFL! Nothing better than gambling, drinking, and eating bar food on a sunday afternoon.

Oh, oh.
I just realized that a guy with a handle of "flames_fan_down_under" with a home town listed as Sydney Australia probably DOES play cricket.
Doh!!!

Doesn't he have some Aussie Rules Football he can watch? That stuff is crazy! I'd watch it more but it's hard to find up here and I don't really understand it.

I feel amazingly calm. It's going to be alot less stessful to watch the playoffs from the outside. It just wasn't our year.

I did the same, and I'm glad it's not as out of control as I thought it'd be.
It was a tough loss, but I'm more worried about my stag this weekend than why the Flames lost. So do what I did, and find something else to be concerned about.

at first I was upset and could not sleep. It was disapointing after soo much regular season success. I was too hyped up off the Flames Kool Aid and thought they could make it further. Thats the way she goes.
It does give the team a chance to fix it problems and be better next year. The first round of the palyoffs is always the hardest. All 4 top seeds getting knocked off helps too. Its the Wild West.

5 Stages of Grief:
The stages are: - Denial and isolation: "The Flames did not lose. The Ducks were just lucky. The refs screwed us. Martin Gelinas scored in Game 6."
- Anger: "Stupid over-paid athletes."
- Bargaining: "Just let me live to see one more Stanley Cup. I promise to stop spending so much time on calgarypuck."
- Depression: "I can't bear to face EDM and VAN fans after all the schadenfreude I enjoyed at their expense."
- Acceptance: "I'm ready, CGY will win the Cup in 2007."

It's nice out and now I can go about my life, spend some more time outside and enjoy the spring.

That's exactly how I feel..the only part that really bothers me is that the Oilers are still playing. That's what hurts.

Guess its baseball season again for me. I'll be cheering on the mariners again as I always have, it'll be good though, they'll probably end up doing very poorly and I'll take those poor expectations right into hockey season again.
Keep low expectations and you'll never be disappointed =P

I hate to agree with you...
The one thing that nobody had during the 2004 playoff run was expectations.
We are all shocked and disappointed by this turn of events, but I don't know what's worse, the fact that we got eliminated or Edmonton advanced....

Yup.
Real life beats hockey, hands down.
Get outside, do something fun, let it pass.

Great post. But you forgot this stage:
6. Masochism: Repeat cycle next year beginning with step 1.
(Hmm.. maybe that attitude just means I'm still on step 4.)

Yea, those 5 stages were pretty suprisingly accurate, especially with the isolation. Just went up to my room, shut the door, and stayed their alone for a few hours.

What he said.
I'm over it already.
I've got an FA Cup Final to look forward to featuring my childhood team, Liverpool.
I've got England to support in the World Cup.
I've got more geocaches to go and find.
Yeah, I'll be ok.

The only thing that would upset me right now is Edmonton going all the way. Could you imagine if they won the Cup on their Cinderella run and we couldn't? Oh man, I couldn't handle that. Well I could, but not very well.
