I like to shop for my work cloths at Moores. They do swarm you but if you tell the guy what you want they measure you and you are out in 30 minutes, tops. Then you just show up 2 days later and every thing is fixed up and ready to take home. Easy shopping.

How's the service there anyways? I'm always too intimidated (and poor)to go in there

The service is swell. Knowledgeble. Solid suggestions as to fit and style. They meet their deadlines.
I know what I want, which keeps things focussed and to the point. Mrs. Cowperson looks after the shirts and ties so I'm not bothering with accessories when I'm there. I don't even know if she buys that stuff there come to think of it!!

I usually get one extreme or the other: Either the salesperson (or persons!) will follow me around the store, knocking on on the dressing room door every 30 seconds. Or else, there's no salesperson in sight, no one to grab another size for me or answer any questions.
All I'm looking for is a happy medium. A polite smile or hello when I walk in is nice. They'll usually get my attention, and I'm likely to go to the person who greeted me if I do have any questions or need a hand.
Still, it's better just to leave me to my own devices while shopping. Clingy, annoying salespeople make the experience a lot more frustrating than it already is, and make it more likely that I leave without trying anything on-- nevermind making a purchase.

They swarm you at Moores? Back in December/November, before I started my co-op term in January, I stopped in every couple of weeks to check out what they had. Not once was I approached to be helped (and I made it obvious I needed help by comparing different shirts to different ties, to different pants etc). Just horrible service there in my experiences (all while there were 2-3 people helping someone who was older than me).
Now for those kind of clothes I go to Tip Top or Jack Fraser where they actually want my business.
Thinking about it for a bit: there's a difference between shopping for regular casual clothes than shopping for business wear eh? At AE or Gap, you (well I) just want to go into the store, pick something out and leave, but when getting a suit or a shirt/tie, you(I) want the help picking stuff out, and getting it all fitted in good time.

Sorry to hear about your experience there. I go to the one across from Chinook centre. I always seem to have some one on me right away. I normally go there with sweat pants and a tee shirt on for easy changing so it must not be the clothes people wear. I am 32 though so maybe once they see someone in that 30-50 group they get after you right away. I am pretty sure they work on a commission so it is in their best interest to help you get out as fast as possible.

I've also had the experience where nobody helps you at Moore's. I'm 30 and still I get ignored! I have also had my wife do shopping for me, but she thinks I should be dressed like Mr.GQ. GAP clothes may be nice, but I don't have a GAP body. Mark's Work Wearhouse is a good place though. I don't get hassled and when I need help, somebody is there to help me. All in all though, shopping sucks unless it is for beer, food, sporting supplies or Flames gear!

It probably most definately helps you. I'm 20 and really, really babyfaced (like, more than Lecavalier), so that's probably my problem there.
I was, however, given pretty good service when I was younger and went in with my dad...so yea, they're looking for the ppl that have the $$$

Going into stores like Harry Rosen, Holt Renfrew, Hugo Boss is a great idea.
Ocassionally you can find some resonable upperside expensive end of clothing, that looks good, fits well and will last. As opposed to some other crap that looks good so they charge you an arm and a leg for and probably won't last. Christ go shopping for a decent pair of jeans now and you're on par with some stuff at the above three stores, it's incredible what some stores charge for clothes.
Anyway, even if you don't buy anthing from these stores (back to the point) the sales people a GREAT!!! They help you try stuff on, give you ideas tell you what looks good, doesn't.. IF you're lucky and find a gay salesperson it can be the equivalent of shopping with a girlfriend.
I had a similar experience at the HR in Vancouver and the guy spent so long dressing me up haha, then I went down to robson and bought a bunch of stuff that was close to what he had suggested and ended up with a bunch of great clothes.
Unfortunatly I haven't been bothered to do such a thing in two years. And I seriously think I'm wearing the same clothes, or have bought stuff when desperate but not much.
I really need to go clothes shopping.

God bless the simple yet effective clothing of Marks Work Warehouse. The one up in Brentwood only has two or three people working at a time and if you say you are just browsing, they will leave you alone.. its great.
For the winter the black or grey carthhart zip up hoodies are a favourite choice of mine. So durable, so comfortable.

Ding ding ding I agree with this.
Very very short waits in lines too, I'm in and out with no problems.
Thats where I buy most of my clothes, they got tons of good stuff (I found a hoodie there without a god damned LOGO, finally).

I really find that the staff at the Sally Ann and Value Village are not pushy at all. The flourescent lights and the unmistakable smell of harsh laundry detergent really add to the shopping experience for a guy like me.

I only shop at 3 places for clothes, The FanAttic, Mark's, and Jersey City, whenever I need formal wear I rent.
As for annoying Gap people, an old friend of mine used to work there when she was in high school, and the reason they swamp you instead of opening one more cash register to speed things up is because they don't get commission if they're not on the floor, and they get paid $5.90 an hour. Well this was 3 years ago, but I don't think anything's changed over the years. Generally I try not to go into these places because like the rest of you I don't like being harassed when I shop either, but I don't have the heart to tell them off because I know how it's like on the other side of the door.

To be honest, I don't mind clothing shopping at all. If someone asks me if they can help me I say "no" and they don't bother me again. Maybe I have this aura about myself or this expression they can read on my face that says if they harass me I will rip they god damn head off.

I need a wife to buy me stuff (lol) but I am too young for that 21. I have had a girl friend(s) for over 4 years, back to back. I found that at 21 you don't want them shopping for you.
-First one turned me in to a MTV guy ()
-The second one was a rich girl shopping style, when it was my money. But she picked out the cheap stuff for me and wanted the $300 shirt for her.
-The one I have now top of the line girl, but wont go shopping for me because she thinks it should be up to me. which is not a good idea
