Happened to me to. It was parked and someone drove by and clipped the side view mirror. Knocked it right off. And they must have hit it hard, because its designed to fold back in case someone hits it.

If its under 5k I wouldnt file a report.

I only have liability so i dont know what would happend but if its under 5K I would just pay out of pocket.

The cops dont give a shat if no one was injured - nothing will happen.

If the other person damaged their vehicle and they try get it repaired the body shop won't do it without an accident report. Often the cops can figure out when someone's "I hit the side of my garage" story is BS and sometimes put two and two together and get the guy for the hit and run.
