Fair enough. If the area actually needs more services I'm not against building them, but there has to be a better way than building some megamall on the outskirts of town.

Well I believe the reasoning is this. Sure it would be great to build within the areas I had mentioned, so its not on the outskirts. But Ivanhoe may want to get more than just the community based residents to shop, especially with a mall that will be slightly larger than Chinook.

Why not build on the outside, and in reality, is not that far from the communities and get the traffic from those coming from the Edmonton, Red deer areas as well. Keep in mind as well, that they would just need to have roads leading from Deerfoot Trail (QE2), thus not much gridlock with respect to access to the mall. Plus, the access to land for further expansion, parking, etc, is abundant there

The proposed land is not even 5 minutes from Country Hills Blvd. Plus they will get alot of traffic from the Horse track/Casino across the highway. Sounds to be like a great business plan, due to the niche of having two powerful consumer draws right next to each other.

When Chinook was built, it was on the outskirts of town. the same could be said for Southcentre and Deerfoot Mall when they were built too.

No kidding. Calgary is just starting to develop a cosmopolitan feel to it. Havent the Business Revitalization Zones or whatever they are called been rather successful?

Let's start squashing it with another mall.

Yeah, and Chinook was built in 1960. The term "urban sprawl" was only 2 years old.
