Global's presentation is terrible, at least at 11pm when I watch. Terrible. Watch the sub-headings when a graphic comes up with the name of whomever is talking. It's awful, especially during sports.
On most stations, you'll see the interviewee's name come up, and then usually his stats for the night underneath it. But no, not on Global. Here's an example of what you'd find:
On another sports network interviewing Jarome Iginla:
Quote:
Jarome Iginla
1 goal, 21:08 TOI
|
On Global:
Quote:
Jarome Iginla
I had fun out there !!1
|
It's very unprofessional and quite annoying, to be honest. Not to mention the endless typographical errors. Like last night, I had no clue the Toronto Maple Leafs were playing the New York Iasnlders.
Blech. Their coverage is awesome which is the only reason I tune in.
edit: nice, Evan. Rant about typos in a typo-laden post. Idiot!

Bring back Tammy Christopher. Although, she might have aged a bit. I had a bit of a crush on her when I was a kid.

Words cannot express how much I agree with you. Did she take her full Mat Leave? I wrote a letter saying that I prefered Tish on the morning traffic.
But even with traffic she blows. She really needs to know that Glenmore Trail is no longer in "the deep south" part of Calgary. Just because she's never been south of Chinook doesn't mean the city doesn't extend further south.

And wasn't Barb Mitchell CFCN?

Tara McCool also went to then A-Channel now City. She never returned to Global after her mat leave, but instead went to the big breakfast

I saw the weathergirl Tish while she was on location last week, and she's pretty damn cute too.
Sorry, for me, Tish looks like she used to be a man... she has an Adam's apple ferchrissakes. As for Leslie, I like her, she has spunk... and she wears a nice pair of jeans. I'll admit she is annoying once in a while, but at least there is some personality there.
Definitely like Brienne, and I think she is being groomed to take over for Linda Olsen. I am pretty sure I have seen Linda there in the last day though.
Nirmila doesn't bother me, never noticed the snot factor before, I will have to watch that more closely.
The guy I can't stand is the older weather guy with the word games. That guy is drier than a popcorn fart.

I can't stand the inane banter between Tish and Clara Fullerton. Tish has improved since showing up on the scene but Clara annoys me to no end. I've never seen a newscaster with a regular gig stumble and fumble the way she does. It's written down for you. All you have to do is read the stupid thing!
I hate to open up a big can of worms but I wonder about the on air personalities in Calgary and their lack of an ethnic flair compared to other stations. Even in Edmonton there seems to be a bit of diversity but down here in Calgary... not so much. Yeah, there's Nirmala but after her you have maybe a small handful of reporters. That's it. Makes me wonder whether they're putting up with Clara's performance because she is a femaile visible minority anchor. Yes it's probably racist or sexist or generally improper to say something like that but I know some of you were thinking it.

Sometimes it's nice to see a little bit of stumbling. Bruce McCallister does it often, but to me he comes across like it's one of my buddies telling me what's been going on.

I noticed the other day that Global had so many typos in their 6pm newscast it was sad. I think the hours at City are easier on Andrew Schultz because wasn't he doign the weather mornign noon and night some days--at least now he's done at 7 pm and can have some semblance of an evening.

I miss the old weather guy from that channel in Edmonton... Bill something? He kicked ass. Big glasses, I wish I could remember his name.

Bill Matheson on ITV? Always liked his lectures on 'the Idaho high'. The guy was a maniac with the dry erase pen too.

That's him! I loved him! They need to bring back the dry erase boards. Weather was so much more exciting back in the day.

She's looking a little long in the tooth these days. Fairly weathered, if you know what I mean.

The best of them all is CTV Edmonton's Carrie Doll who used to be on CFCN. Damn good looking and actually good at her job.
The thing that annoys me about Nirmila is how she's so fake. The sports guy will finish talking about some golf score or the Brier Standings and she'll sit there nodding and smiling like she's so interested about how Randy Ferbie's rink is now in second place. YEAH RIGHT! like you give a sh-t!. Just say "thanks" to the sports guy and move on.
