Entertaining game so far. I think it'll take some time for the team to gel, but they'll be a huge August/September team and might make a push for the wildcard, or maybe even the division title.

With the Raptors and Leafs being so awful this year the Jays might actually draw some interest if they're mediocre!!

Big crowd to open the season is a good sign. I guess the key is how many show up again tommorrow. No Leafs in the playoffs and a good start will do a lot to draw fans for the Jays this season.

Arguably their 8 best players are, in no particular order;

Halladay

Glaus
Ryan
Burnett
Overbay
Hillenbrand
Molina

5 of those guys they didn't have last season! The only player of consequence they gave up was Hudson.

That is a huge improvement, on paper.
Did I say I was a fan? Im an Anaheim Angels fan but I still follow the Jays since their canadian.

Nice two-run shot by Rios! Wasn't he the guy who had a horrible HR-less streak last year?

edit--nm, he was. SN guys answered my question.

My Angels start playing in 20 minutes. Hope Vlad hits another home run tonight!

I guess this line made me think you were a fan.

Anyways, back to the game at hand.

Rios was hitting the ball well all day, and finally got rewarded with a 2 out, 2 run homerun in the 8th inning.

6-3 Jays.

6-3 final, Halladay with the win, Ryan with the save.

It's just one game, but Ryan definitely looked like the closer the Jays have been waiting for. Faced 3 batters and struck out 2, and looked very pumped after the final pitch. 3 first pumps and some words that can't be repeated on here.

Very entertaining game today. It had a little of everything. Great pitching, good defense, a few homeruns (including Molina's 5th deck shot), and a great fan atmosphere.

Ryan is the Blue Jays version of Phaneuf, the guy's a monster.

What an outstanding ball game! Everything went right. Doc with an excellent start, timely hitting, including a gigantic shot to the fifth deck by Molina, and BJ Ryan is a MONSTER in earning his first save! I think the Jays are going to have a heckuva season this year.

Got home from work just in enough time to see the ninth. J0hnson had a big game, his single kept that inning going. Man does Ryan ever work fast, just no bs he's just going right after you. Hell of a game all around great way to start the year!

Yeah, seeing Ryan out there, I couldn't help but think this is the most intimidating closer the Jays have had since like Duane Ward. Koch had a hard fastball but he wasn't an intimidation presence. Ward was, and so is Ryan.

The jays are 22-8 in their 30yr history on Opening day.
Hopefully they dont flatten out in the summer time like usual.

I dunno...a troll would say something like "betcha they flatten out in the summertime as usual. A fan would say "hopefully they don't..."

True but this guy has a history of coming into the baseball threads with little one liners to start arguments.

I'm also curious KipperisGod when you stopped being a Mets fan and decided to jump on the Angels bandwagon?

Not trying to be a dumb ass. Just trying to figure out what you're all about. During the off-season thread you would come in and write these little passing shots about the Jays as well. As I said at the time, I don't care at all if you like/hate the Jays, but be up front about it and contribute more than one liner pot shots.

Hey....baseball!!

I've distanced myself because I'll be away all summer and have essentially no reason to follow it till I get back. Sounded like a hell of a game though.
