I go to Vegas 2 - 3 times a year, probably have gone in total about 15 times.
if you gamble, make sure you get a players card, since you are going to the Stratosphere, its called the Ultimate Rewards card.
any thing you do at the hotel, make sure you charge it to your room. meals, shows (Bite!) etc. do NOT pay for meals out of pocket.
when you gamble make sure you use your ultimate rewards card.
at the end of your trip, the casino will look at your gambling and then comp you for the amoount you gamble. you might get a meal or two free or even the shows.
My casino host at the Stratosphere is Ron Guse. I rarely pay for meals or shows any more and most times they comp my room as well.
it certainly doesnt hurt to use the cards.

OHhh, I absolutely LOVE Las Vegas and can't seem to get sick of that place. It just fits my lifestyle perfectly!
I would recommend never staying at a hotel off the strip, even if you are saving a few bucks. The last time I went, I stayed at the Rio, and even though it's only about a mile off the strip, and there is a free shuttle that takes you there, it was REALLY inconvenient. Any time I bought stuff, I'd have to carry it around with me all day, instead of being able to drop it off at the hotel. Never again.
I actually LOVED the buffet at Aladdin. It was voted #1 buffet in Vegas. It has everything you can imagine! I think it was 25 dollars. Deeeelicious! I also kind of liked the lunch buffet at Harrah's. They had gelato!!! Of course I couldn't have any, because they seemed to use the same scoop for the PEANUT ice cream as the other ones =(
The bus that people are talking about that allows you to travel for 24 hours on the strip, and anywhere else in the city is called the Deuce. They also have CAT buses that follow the same route, I believe. Just not double decker.
I didn't mind the mall in Primm. I wouldn't take a bus there, but when I went, we drove to the outlet mall. Not a huge difference from the outlet malls within the city, except they did have a Burberry outlet, which was still VERY expensive, I thought.
I bought all my show tickets at one of those 1/2 price show ticket places...I don't think they are actually 1/2 price, but we still got pretty decent discounts.

Thanks guys! I'm going to have to go three times to fit everything in. I'm staying at the New York Casino, so I'll be close to all the things on the strip. Keep the tips coming....

fun roller coaster on the roof at NYNY. My parents have a home there so I go at least once a year. A little too hot for me this time of year (I was there for part of the '04 Cup run, a ton of Calgarians took over a bar at the Stardust to watch the games. Good times! ) 44C the whole week.

If you're staying at the NYNY, don't miss the dueling piano bar. It is 1000 times better than the one here in Calgary.. Aussie Rules. That is a must see.

I have been in Vegas too many times I have now lost count. Here is what I suggest.....
Hotel:
The hotels are the best part of Vegas. If you dont' mind spending a few bucks, pick a nice one. Since it is your first time, I would recommend to try and stay Central of the new hotels, somewhere like MGM, Paris or Monte Carlo (in my order of preference). Aladdin / Planet Holleywood is being converted right now, so stay away from the construction there.
Shows:
I really enjoyed Blue Man Group, Danny Ganns and cirque de soleils ("O", Mystere).
Nightclubs:
I went last weekend to Tryst at Wynn last weekend and it was the best / nicest club I have ever been to in my life (60 foot waterfall inside of it). Pure is also amazing (overlooks the strip), and I heard Jet is getting good too.
Strippers:
Spearmint Rhino and don't go anywhere else.... trust me on that one

Advice for Strippers...
The cab drivers have a system with the strip joints that gets them about $50 a head for people they bring to certain clubs. If you don't know this you will end up paying full cab fare and cover at the strip club.
Knowing this, you should negotiate with you cab driver.
We were able to get a free drive and our covers paid for by the cab drivers because they still make money from the club on top of that.

Check out the World of Coke. Ask around for the location. It's farther down the strip.

It's just north of the MGM-Grand beside the M&M World. It's not hard to find, just look for the giant Coke bottle.

There's 3. One is just south of the Airport on Las Vegas Blvd. Fairly low-end bargain stuff.
There's a newer north towards downtown and west of the strip, not far off the Interstate, which was the $10 cab ride. Has a big Nike Store, Adidas, thus a bit better stores then the first I mentioned.
Haven't been to the one 30 mins out of town, so can't comment on it.
To be honest, they've torn down some of the tshirt shops that were south of the Bellagio since I was last year, and has condensed the scummy area to south of the Aladdin and north of the MGM. Walking that route from the Aladdin to the MGM there last weekend there must have been a crackdown as 5 different cruisers had 5 different guys in cuffs in those tshirt shop parking lots, probably peddling drugs.
Far from skecthy or anything as there are tons of people walking at all times in that area, just not very attractive.
There's a pretty big walking gap between the Bellagio and MOnte Carlo and NYNY, as well as on the opposite side between Aladdin and MGM.
I prefer to stay in the Mirage/Caesars/IP part of the strip.
And no, not a sniff of any Wranglers merchandise...I would like to pick up a jersey when I am down there in 5 weeks again.
