Has anyone rented a UHaul truck before?

Strange, I have used Uhaul 4 times.

2 for storage in Edmonton - very handy.

1 for a move from Edmonton to Calgary - no problems.

Only issue was booking on July long weekend, I booked it in March and went there and truck wasnt available for 3 days.

Used them a few weeks ago to move out my brother.

I used their 1-800 line to book a reservation. They said that the Kensington location would phone me back in 30 minutes. I never got a call back. I decided to just go to the Kensington location and try my luck. As it turned out, there was a truck available.

It cost $67 to rent the truck. It's no wonder they don't want to do maintenance - they're probably barely breaking even at that rate.

A few hours later, I got a call from the Bowness location saying they had a truck available. Now by this time it was around 4:30 and I was done moving, so that was utterly useless. As it turned out though, they charged my CC $50 for reneging on the reservation.

Thing is, I wouldn't have used U-Haul if it weren't for Budget. The girl that did the reservation at Budget didn't actually give us a reservation. She just lied about the whole thing over the phone.

I have a friend who worked in the maintenance department of U-Haul. The experience damn-near killed her as she was NOT ALLOWED to spend money on routine maintenance. She was only allowed to spend money after something had broken.

She will never drive a U-Haul in her life. She knows the maintenance records and isn't willing to risk her life - or anyone elses for that matter.
