I had all mine pulled quite some time ago.
they were acting up so the Dental Surgeon did some X-rays took one look at them and said ther eis no way I'm doing these unless you are asleep (i.e. general anesthesia not local).
The first two apparently popped out in 5 minutes. The third took about 15 minutes. The last one took over an hour as they had to cut the crown off and then aplit the tooth in three to get it out (it was hooked under my molar).
I was in quite some pain for a good 5 or 6 days. I actually still have trouble with my jaw "clicking" now and then.

I am scared as hell of this and am 35. My top ones only came in about 6 years ago. One of my bottoms is just under the skin with one small part visible. I wonder how needed it is to get them pulled every time I go in they x-ray and then ask "do you have insurance" I don't so they say thay are fine. The problem I am going to have is that the tops will keep growing without the bottoms to stop them.

I have to get mine done soon - I go visit the dentist every 6 months and he has been asking me every time I visit if I've had them removed...
I have one wisdom tooth that is exposed and the other 3 are impacted - My dentist wants me to get all 4 removed....
The orthodontist has given me 3 options to choose: just get my mouth frozen, get knocked out, or get "gassed" up so that I'm still conscious, but not feeling anything... What do you all think would be the best option? I'm kinda leaning to getting the gas, but I'm not so sure...

The hell? Mine got infected and didn't stink...
I cleaned them every night but apparantly one healed too fast over some food and got infected, it's very rare though.
And I forgot about the freezing...it's by far the worst part, because after you don't know what you can do, if it's hurting or not. My chin was frozen for 3 days, and that is just annoying.

I didn't have a problem with the freezing, although I did have to get quite a few needles, moreso than I was told, but either way, for me the worst part was hearing them rip teeth out of my mouth. That cracking sound is without a doubt in my mind, the worst sound ever. The swelling and pain were fairly minimal for me. Pain went away after a day, the swelling took a couple of days.

Thanks for sharing stories.
Swelling has gone WAAAY down today for me.
The only trouble I'm having now is opening my jaw. Hopefully that gets better in the next few days as I'm always so hungry and cant stand pudding!!! Usually it takes me 5 minutes to eat a sandwich i've been working on this one for 20 minutes now.

I went with the freezing and it wasn't too bad, I didn't swell up at all and it didnt' really hurt for very long at all .. mouth pain was for about a day and the headache was for about 3 days but nothing some advil couldn't handle. I did bleed a little for almost 5 days though.
The only thing about the freezing that really sucks is the needles... especially if you are getting all 4 taken out. I think they put 13 in mouth to freeze my whole face. Being awake and hearing the crunching sound as they take your teeth out is kind of a trip, and its a good story to gross out people with weak stomachs too. Plus like Jayems said its way cheaper. I think it cost me $600 at the dentist for all 4 compared to $1800 if I had been put under with an ortho.

I didn't have too much trouble. No pain, no swelling, bleeding stopped after a couple hours. The only problem was the area above my chin up to my lip was numb for about a week. But that didn't prevent me from eating or anything. I was amazed how quickly they did everything. I was in and out in an hour.

How long did it take most of you to get normal jaw movement back?
I'm suprised to see alot of people did not have problems.

I had an abcessed wisdom tooth pulled yesterday and I am in terrible pain right now. The tooth was rotting and it couldn't be extracted the normal way. The dentist had to break my tooth up (just freezing, no aneasthetics) with a screwdriver looking device and he picked the peices out with a pair of tweezers. I got 8 stitches to stich my gums back together and was bleeding this korning still when I woke up. I threw up about an hour after I got up due to the amount of blood I swallowed over night. I'm very swollen and am taking far too much Tylenol 3 for my own good. I haven't eaten yet and it's been about 24 hours as I type.

pulled all 4 about 5 years ago, $1200 and 2 weeks of eating plain congee later it's good as new. Swelling was pretty bad for the first 5 days though.
