Well his return is with creative use of his previous voice clips and audio editing.

Or maybe the fact that he suffered a mild stroke on Jan.17 means he just sounds different.

Maybe then..

For its part, Comedy Central claimed the episode was replaced by back-to-back Chef-heavy episodes in order to "give Chef an appropriate tribute by airing two episodes he is most known for."
Why do that if he just sounds different..

Given Hayes' abrupt exit from the show, which series creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have insisted was motivated by his offense at the Scientology-skewering episode, "Trapped in the Closet," it seems a safe bet that he may find himself the target of the show's humor
While that's not a quote from the makers of the show on why they are making the episode about Chef, it'd probably be unlikely they'd be doing it for any reason other then him quitting... Unless it's to make fun of one of their cast members having a stroke, but they're not that kind of humor..

Last week, Isaac Hayes, who had voiced the character for almost a decade, quit the show in a fit of religious indignation, leading fans to believe they had been seen the last of the series' resident ladies man.
Umm, it's a cartoon, they don't need to find an identical black man with an identical voice, they can keep drawing the same character but change his voice or use sound clips..

It makes a lot more sense then him having a pretend retiring on TV because of religious insensitivity and bigotry of the creators as a publicity stunt?

Or am I completely missing some point you're making?

I'm not sure the point you are making?

For my part, I like South Park and was disappointed when Hayes quit the show last week. I thought it kind of strange since the show in question aired last Nov, but who knows.

Then I saw this article that mentioned how, less than a week after it was announced that Chef had quit the show, it was announced that the first show of the new season would be "The return of Chef". It seemed like too much publicity to happen just before a new season begins.

Where did you see that they were using "creative use of his previous voice clips and audio editing"? I just haven't seen that (but it wouldn't surprise me). When I saw that, I remembered that if Hayes had a stroke, perhaps he would sound different and that would explain the

when Chef suddenly reappears on the scene, but it quickly becomes apparent to Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman that something about their old friend is different.

You're probably right, and they are just using previous clips. Since the show is computer generated and Matt & Trey do most of the voices they can complete a show in 3 days in response to topical events. But I still find it strange that Hayes quit when, according to most of his (pre-stroke) recent interviews he really liked being 'Chef'.

Of course, if someone wants to follow a conspiracy theory:
Quote:
Roger Friedman of Fox News says Hayes was in no shape to be throwing around such phrases as "intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs" because he is recovering from a stroke suffered Jan. 17 - and someone else was putting words in his mouth.

apparently Chef never quit SP. Good on him. Not sure I believe this though. I actually believe the stroke may be an elaborate cover-up story.

Bobblehead, sorry, not going to quote that mess of quotes we both have lol.

Umm.. hmm, I thought I saw him on TV when I saw a story about him quitting. However the clip could have been an old clip just to show him (because he looked fine in the clip, and didn't look post stroke).

The story just said he quit because of the bigotry and intolerance. But that it seemed odd because he never had a problem making fun of other religions. Those other links make some comments that contradict the story i saw, but I guess that can be expected. Another story i read discussed the new episode and how it had used creative technology to keep chefs voice in it... I'd assume that meant clips.

The Comedy Central cartoon begins its 10th season with an episode titled The Return of Chef! The character's return follows by just a few days Hayes' statement that he was quitting because he could no longer accept the shows satirical blasts at religion.
Quote:
Stone and Parker quickly shot back that Hayes had no problem poking fun at religions until South Park took on Scientology in an episode last fall. Hayes is a Scientologist.
Hayes didn't return to voice the new episode, but there's widespread speculation that the mischievous Stone and Parker used creative editing of his voicing from past shows to fashion new dialogue.

Wednesday's show is the first of seven new South Park episodes.
Who knows.. lol

From everything I've read it'd seem to be a lot for a publicity stunt, something they've never really needed.. As well the Tom Cruise and the canceling of the rerun seems to have created enough of that.
