JH, Would you consider the following email to be sufficient so accompany a cover letter/resume?

Dear Soinso,

I am interested in the XYZ position posted on your website, please see my attached cover letter and resume. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Clarkey

Probably wouldn't go directly into the trash but it also wouldn't exactly knock my socks off. I want to know why you're interested and why I should be interested in you. Think of it is an abridged version of your full cover letter, but more importantly it is still the first impression you are making. Gotta stand out from the crowd man. When we post jobs we get about 100 resumes in 2-3 days. Give me a reason to pay attention to yours.

Hmm, good point. I just don't want to get too wordy in the email as it is only the introduction to my cover letter.

I'll keep it short but spruce it up a bit.

One thing about word is that I don't want it showing grammar corrections on a potential employers screen. Isn't there a way you can stop this by 'finishing' the document?
