Their, there, and they're still irritate me. It only takes a second to figure out which one to use, you just have to know their proper meanings.
Edited to add that I think the reason people write 'could of' is because when we speak we often use the contraction 'could've' which sounds similar.

The one I've seen way too many times on various message boards is: "since" instead of "sense", as in "that doesn't make any since".
Huh?

Yeah, there/their/they're as well as your/you're are my two biggest peeves. It amazes me how so many people make mistakes over something we should have all learned by around grade three or four.

How about: "Bare with me."
Okay, but do I really have to take my clothes off to understand what you're trying to say?

OK, I'm not sure if this is a joke or intentional? I'll give the benefit of the doubt, but...

You must've taken a stroll through canuckscentral. Maybe not, because there it would be:

That's exactly what I was going to bring up. "I could care less" drives me a little crazy. Hmmm, what else can I add to this?
"a" vs. "an"
It's pretty simple people. "An" comes before a word that starts with a vowel, "a" is before a consonant. For the really slow, vowels are "a, e, i, o, u". ie: an apple, an elephant, a bird, a cat

Since we're on this grammar/spelling topic: one of the most common spelling mistakes on CP must be with the word "ridiculous." (It is NOT "rediculous.")
I understand that spelling errors occur... I just like to be able to read what people post! The worst (not that it happens much, if at all, on CP)
r posts tht read like im sendng a txt msg 2 u & hope u cn read it lol.
Messenger and SMS have destroyed our ability to type properly and express ourselves by at least constructing half decent sentences.

Actually, that's not quite right.
You use 'an' in front of words that start with a vowel sound, not necessarily a vowel.
You would say 'an honest mistake' not 'a honest mistake'. Likewise, you would describe someone from Europe as 'a European' not 'an European'.

The first part was a joke, the "agreeance" part was not, as it is not a word

My big peeve is misplaced modifiers, particularly the simple ones, like 'only', 'just', and 'barely'. Nobody knows how to use this word any more. I see it used incorrectly in advertisements, newspapers, and everywhere. It makes me crazy!
Incorrect: Nilson just played ten minutes last night.
Correct: Nilson played just ten minutes last night.
This should be obvious. I don't understand why everybody mixes this up!

Irregarless is a word actually. It's just that it's considered to be a redundant word because it means the same thing as the shorter 'regardless'.

Irregardless doesn't mean the same thing as 'regardless.' Why? Because 'irregardless' simply isn't a word in standardized English...It's not redundant; it's actually nonsensical. People have begun using this falsely constructed, illogical term to mean the same thing as 'regardless,' but that doesn't mean that it's a 'proper' word.

As someone who does a fair amount of proofreading for work (and often from translation), all errors make me stop when I'm trying read a post. I just can't read past them, as I think most people do, without trying to correct them. It's just ingrained in me.
But, I have to say, I think the posters here are better than the internet standard, at least most of you try to make sense. Definitely an improvement over some posters on the old cf.com board. Is it that hard to just read your post before clicking "post?"
