I have two speeding tickets. One in the district of Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario. Admittedly, I was speeding there (20kms over when stopped but they caught me doing 30 earlier lol), but they ask for it with their 90km/h speed limits on the highway in northern Ontario. The other was for going 12 kms over the limit here in Calgary. The ticket was $80. Why do they even send tickets for less than $100? I dunno but I guess it worked because I definitely don't speed anymore.

I do the limit in any residential area. 10% over inside the city otherwise. And I do 125 when the speed limit's 110.

I speed ALL the time...except Playground zones.
Driving Ontario 400 series hiways IF you dont speed they will ram you off the road!
Seriously...the fast lane on the 401 outside of Toronto has got to be a 140 average...if you arent doing at least 140 youll have guys right on your arse.
I was in Cowtown a month ago to visit my mom and after I rented a car at the airport I noticed I was BLOWING by people. Then I remembered the stupid camera thang....man what a paranoid feeling. Speed cameras, red light cameras...Big brother is alive and well in Calgary, Alberta. Everyone was driving the speed limit LOLOL...man what a strange feeling that was.

Inside the city near residential area's I try to stay within 5-10 kilometers per hour of the limit, and obey the limit in playground/school zones. But on the highway I'm pretty bad. Although not near as bad as I used to be. I used to rip down highways at 160-170 and often would hit 200 or more on straight stretches all the time, now I barely have the guts to get up to 140.

About the same.
I rarely travel under the speed limit on major thoroughfares in the city (where I drive only occasionally), blowing down MacLeod in the south end of the city, as an example, at 100 kmh or even 110 khm if its fairly clear and I'll do about 110-120 km on local secondary highways (in blizzards too) and about 130 km on four lane highways . . . . but I do obey school zone speed limits and I'll typically travel under the posted limit in residential areas. Basically, if I can see a long ways in front of me, I'll wind it up.
I'll get a photo radar ticket every few years and pulled over about once every five years.
Crazy thing is, even though I sound like a lead foot, my two Golden's and I have a favourite thing to do, going for Saturday/Sunday drives, windows rolled down, heads out the windows, winter or summer, at about 50 kmh down country roads, pulling over when someone comes up behind us . . . . . meandering for an hour or so, checking out the scenery, stopping for pictures once in a while.
The things we see . . . .

The worst is Winnipeg. The red light cameras double as multinovas. I dicovered this as I was approaching an intersection, I saw the red light camera and the light turned amber. I knew if I pinned it I could get through before the red. The light was still amber when the flash of the camera went off. My brother in law explained that the cameras were dual purpose. However in Manitoba they are still offering forgiveness for out of province people, and I never received the ticket.

I drive like an old man. Always the speed limit, except the 401 where you have to go with the flow or get run over. Probably end up at about 115 km/h on the 401.

I used to work with a guy who'd we'd switch off driving every day to work (differnt job site every day, sometimes out to strathmore, and surrounding towns)...
In calgary, probably he'd go about 90-100... and on the highway no less than 150km/hr.
goddamn i hated driving with him...

On city streets, speed limit--on the trails, less than 10 over, on the highway, i'll do 150 if it's a clear, dry day.

Everyone for the most part seems to be fine with their speeds. But most people on this board probably rate themselves a "good drivers" when in fact they suck hard. People need to go the speed limit when the roads are clear. I am a proponent of saying that 10 over is speeding, but also 10 under is not right. If you don't like going 90km/h then take a different route. Go the scenic route. I hate people who don't look before changing lanes, despite the fact they've signalled. I hate people who drive under (even if barely) the speed limit in the fast lane on deerfoot. I could go on and on. No one is as good or as safe of a driver as they like to assume.
The only way you can back up your record is how many tickets you have and how many accidents you've had, and how many claims you've made to insurance due to something you've done. I have 0 on all fronts, and I've been driving for 5 years. (Knock on wood)

I speed in the spring. I love the warm air and the radio blaring and the beautious green sprouting on the trees and the fragrance of newness. But never in school zones. Ever.

<clap clap> come back in ten years and let us know how youve done.
Ive had one accident in 33 years of driving, and about 3 or 4 speeding tickets. Does that make me a bad driver?
I think most fast drivers are probably better drivers than slow drivers who think they own the roads and hold up people for their own sake.

The big problem is that nobody has tested my driving abillity since I was 16; which was more than 1/2 my lifetime ago.
I find it funny that before I put a 10 year old car on the road I have to have it inspected, but I have not been tested in that time. Any crash I have ever been involved in; my fault or not; has been caused by driver error and not mechanical failure.

I always do about 20 over the speed limit. I have a friend that is a police officer and he says that most cops will give about 20 over the speed limit(this does not include playground and schoold zones and places where the limit is 50 or below). I have never had a ticket in my life and have never been in an accident.

My name is Burn_Baby_Burn and I am a speeder. I never speed in the city or any city, mostly because of photo radar and other speed traps. But on the highway I am a bat out of hell. Usually set the cruise at 140 on the #2. And drive as fast as I can on 2 lane highways. Depends on the conditions. I lived in Saskatoon for a couple years and I could make it from there to Lethbridge in 5 hours consistantly. Sure I get tickets, about 1 a year. But if speeding was such a problem woudn't the cops actually try and crack down on it? I do have a number of outstanding tickets in our neighboring provinces. 2 in SK, one is almost 10 years old. 3 in BC. Plus three in Australia. SK, and Australia have given up. But BC still sends letters for me to clear this up immediatly. Good luck. The one thing that does bother me about speeding is construction zones. On the #2 you slow down to 80km, at least I do (double the demerits and fines in constuction zones), and everyone blows by you like your standing still. Makes you wonder if it is even worth bothering.

Calgary has done a much better job of "access management" - meaning less driveways and intersections on major roads. That's why the speed limits are higher on Calgary's main roads than Edmonton.
As far as the Whitemud, it has a couple of curves that are designed to handle 80 km/h and no more, which is why the speed limit seems so low compared to Deerfoot.

I used to feel this way too, until I spent some time doing research in traffic safety. Unless you understand how speed limits are set, and the consequences of high average speeds on a roadway, you can't justify a blanket statement like that.
Read these, and then decide if speed limits are too low:

Hehe, me too. Every time I go back to Winnipeg I blow through one just to see the flash behind me.

Before everything was computerized they use to throw out tickets after 3 years. If you could lay low, no points or fines but you could end up spending the night in the hoosegow.
I usually speed a little to keep up with or exceed traffic. I feel going to slow or too fast in traffic throws everybody off and causes accidents. In very bad conditions I'll slow down and let the fools carry on and hope they don't cause me grief. Speaking as a one time professional driver dealing with time, speeding is an easy thing for cops to enforce but I see lots of terrible driving from people who never speed or get in fault accidents, but they cause lots of havoc around them. I worked for a company that was quick to fire you for any accident and I was never canned.
I've had lots of tickets in the last 30 yrs. but no accidents.
