It is true, though, they do get a lot of high profile jobs, and I maintain that Stantec is a great place to start. And from what I've heard from friends that have moved on, things aren't exactly rosy at Cohos or Stebrob or any of the other similar places either.

Of course, I sold my Stantec shares for 23 bucks when I left. Doh!!
My son works at Stantec now - he loves it there. You mentioned Cohos and Stebrob - you must be an electrical engineer or electrical engineering tech.

The problem is I have job security here and my dad got layed off in the late 80's and he has been 'weird' ever since. So I have a unreasonable fear of getting layed off if I go to a different place.
It seems you have someone you can talk with and who understands your position. So you are not isolated here.

I think you should tell the person what is happening, your thought son leaving (unwillingly) and especially mention the effects on your health. See what they have to say. If they have a sypathetic ear then maybe you do not need to move.

I think you should talk with those commitee members as well. Somehow I think you'll find some allies there too.

Anyways, I have a story but it would take pages upon pages to complete.

Just say I met up with the very first female chauvanist pig in my life.

Yeah, I'm an electrical engineer. Is your son in the electrical business?

I can't really comment on what the specific electrical group at Stantec is like right now, as there are only 3 guys there now that were there when I left July 2004. Of course, that much turnover says something too... I do hear that the new boss Kim Szinger is a pretty good person to work for, though, so maybe things have changed around there. That still doesn't help the bull**** you have to deal with from the corporate level, though, and that part of the business is really bad at Stantec.

Actually, my son works in Transportation at Stantec. I am an Architectural Specification Writer - I do work with a lot of Architectural firms and work with a lot of Electrical Engineering firms - including Stebrob. Who knows, I might have worked on some of the projects you are working on.

I did a bunch of work with the Transportation group at Stantec since I did a lot of the streetlighting design out of our office. A couple good guys in there, but I sure wouldn't want to work for that Andy guy. Can't remember the last name, but that guy was an ******* to his underlings, from what I heard.

My son's supervisor's name is Pat (something). He says that he's a great boss.
