I personally wouldn't, but I can see more people having interest in that as many of those sprinters achieve moderate levels of fame and celebrity. Some even have cult followings in those circles. Unfortunately, paralympians don't usually achieve that status. It's the personalities associated with the trophies and the moments in history they were part of that makes them interesting. Even though paralympians achieve greatness, our society doesn't put them on the pedastal they deserve to be on.

My disability does not result from an accident or a disease -- I was born with a “club foot”. Since birth, the orthopedic surgeon had put my right foot in casts until I reached four months old. Shortly after, I then had a successful operation that has helped to move my foot more appropriately. But for the next three years I was wearing orthopedic shoes, and at night, I had to wear a special prosthesis.

Even though I'm quite agile now, I still have a smaller muscle in my right calf. This small muscle has caused the ankle to be weak, not that flexible, and has also made the foot much smaller.

That's his disability.

It is sort of odd that he'd pawn it off for 10 grand. Maybe he really does need the money. Or maybe he doesn't care about stuff like that. Or maybe he's a heartless creep. Who knows. It would be cool to have that thing around to show the grandkids that don't believe that you were once a young person and not always a smelly old coot since the day you were born.

A few years ago Guy Lafleur threw some of his memorabilia in the garbage and some kids found it at the dump. IIRC, the story made the news because the kids took it to a collector shop to sell and the owner thought they had stolen it so he called the police.

Why is it dumb that it is my opinion that trophies are uselss junk? I'm not saying that winning awards is useless, but a material representation of the achievement doesn't mean anything. I guess I'm just not a materialist. You might think it's dumb, but there are millions of people on this planet who feel similar.

Anyway, nice attempt to bait me with your drive by insult. This site has a policy against trolling and you of all people should know that since you're usually the first person to point out other people's indiscretions.

The eBay listing says he has 8 Paralympic gold medals. I'm sure he won't miss one.

If you look at his other auctions, he's been selling off his Team Canada swim suits as well. It's probably a combination of having too much memorabilia sitting around the house as well as a desire to raise some money. I'm sure that being a paralympic swimming champion isn't the best road to Easy Street.

I caught this on NBC:

"Flying Finn Matti Nykaenen is the only jumper to win three titles at a single Winter Games (1988); because of alcoholism and self-destructive tendencies, Nykaenen has sold his all of his gold medals"

So it's not just Paralympians that have done this. Matti I'm sure was a national hero and was the toast of the town back in 88'.

I read somewhere he's a male stripper right now.
