Add that whiny, contrived, weeny to the Jake Godie/Kalan Porter camp.

That band sucks, real bad. Anyone with even an elementary knowledge of music know where they fit in the grand scheme of things. Faceless, nameless garbage produced for the masses. FM refuse that fits perfectly into the playlists of programmers who are only interested in selling advertising and opening their ass for whoever wants to give them prize money for the current terrible and whorish contest they are running.
Peopel who buy this crap and just perpetuating all that is wrong with music.

I'm no great fan of Nickelback but I agree with the others and will add that this post is ridiculous.

Just saying that those guys who listen to The Pixies, drive Subaru Outbacks, make weekly trips to MEC, drink Chai Lattes are just as bad a cliche as a Britney fan. The problem is the Britney fan has an excuse as they are usually not old and experienced in life. Nickleback though, there is no excuse for that.
Speaking of bad music, did you see Scott Stapp from Creed has a sex tape out KristianHuseliusing some girls with Kid Rock?
|
But the Pixies had more talent in a sample of Frank Black's stool than in all of Britney Spear's stretchmarked and restretched body.
So they do have an excuse.

Lucky. Should be a good show.
I'm going to see Stars on the 27th and Metric on the 28th. I remember seeing Metric and The Unicorns open for Hot Hot Heat a couple of years ago in Mac Hall. There was already a buzz about Metric at that time. Last month they opened for the Rolling Stones for three shows at MSG.

Well call me the weirdo, but I happen to like Nickleback, quite a bit actually. I think it's great that rock isn't dead.
But that's just me.

I have no problems with the Nickleback nominations, even though I am not a fan of their work.
The people from that Canadian Idol show however...

Now, its go out, find a neat and tidy sound, and then find (or manufacture) 100 bands just like it. It's like the big wigs of the industry have completely eliminated the market for genuinely talented creative bands. We just have to realize most people are not really big music fans...people like you and I might have several hundred or thousands of albums in our collection. A lot of people i know have less than 50. Look at it this way, we're lucky that we have the internet now. I can avoid the garbage and find more quality than ever before, if I put in a little effort. I haven't needed to listen to crappy mainstream radio for years now. I don't miss it. The Nickelback fans can have it.

Its funny, where you see nickelback as being the reason rock isn't dead, I see them as covered in blood, holding the murder weapon. Its all perspective I guess. But I'm right.

I also like Eminem and Madonna actually. I like good vocals and music that makes me sing along. While my singing could be described as not very artistic, what is wrong with enjoying the music that I like? I have listened to music for a looong time and I can tell you that the market is almost always right. I remember when everyone who had so called 'high class' taste in music just hated 'Thriller'. Where have they gone?
I also enjoy classical music. What gives people the right to judge others on their music tastes? I don't really like some music, but I don't judge those that do. And i come from the maritimes stooped in a rich musical history there and in my family. Violin of fiddle? Merely a question of snobbishness and judgement.

Nickelback has creative lyrics. Their musical writing skills may lack, but they have creative lyrics.
Igottago, that last post was hilarious. "I have plenty of good friends whose musical tastes I despise. But do I think they know as much as I do when it comes to music? Not a chance."
Do your 'good friends' know how little you think of them? Not only do you hate their taste in music, you've basicaly called them musical ######s. I'm so sure you know so much about music and record labels know nothing which is why they produce this crap. 16 year olds buy more albums than 35 year olds. They will always be the ones catered to. Does that make it good? Not necessarily. However, when Elvis came out, adults thought him trash too....

Yes, they do know, and it goes both ways..they don't understand how I listen to what I listen to either, basically thinking I'm the musical ######. Its not like I'm some big musical snob bully, top 40 types like to think they're the ones who are right, and anything not on CJAY 92 is for wierdos. However, like i said, i'm not friends with people only because of their musical tastes..its taste, and that's all it is, it has no bearing on character when push comes to shove.
In terms of musical taste, of course I think i'm right. Their record collections pale in comparison to mine, both in terms of pure numbers, and also in terms of variety. They are more or less top 40 fans, and it shows. They spend a lot less time and money trying to expose themselves to different types of music. That counts for something. If I was speaking of comic books, and I owned 10 comics, why should my opinion be valued as much as someone who has a collection of thousands and knows vastly more than me?? I've spend years building up a good collection, and exposing myself to a variety of music, so yes, I find it laughable when someone who is spoonfed by mainstream media outlets is telling me whats good.
Also, I have no problem with good music being popular. That should be the mandate of the music industry. However, what they've been pushing in the last 10 years is not good music, it is watered down, easy to manufacture product, plain and simple. Nickelback and the 200 other bands that sound like them, as much as some of you might like them, is proof of that.

Are you sure people are judging people based on their musical tates? Or are they simply judging their musical tastes? As I said before, I could care less what people listen to, they have their taste, I have mine. My judgement of someone's character has nothing to do with music.

Not everything on mainstream is crap though. There are genuinely good artists out there that you would ignore because they are on Cjay or whatever. Success does not equal a lack of talent either. Generally speaking, Nickleback is successful, and the 200 bands that try to sound like them are not. (Default anyone?) Why do you suppose they have had so much success when their soundalikes have not?

Rock most certainly is not dead. But the fact is that there are good rock artists out there don't get a fair shake because carbon copy bands like Nickleback that can't push the boundries of talent (I wonder why) and take up all the Canadian content on regular radio.
Check out www.newmusiccanada.com to hear what real Canadian TALENT is. Music is more than the same verse and chorus rehashed and resold to the millions of peons who don't get exposed to anything else.

Well that's personal taste now, isn't it? I happen to think the lyrics to Photograph are quite creative and there isn't a song with lyrics anything similar to it out right now. Again, the musical portion of the song lacks originality, but the words are pretty good. Again though, it's personal taste. I don't need to hear anymore songs about how a person hates their life, their girlfriend, loves everyone, wants to scream, whatever.
