I think the main message is that a 20 year-old guy smoking weed and and drinking a bottle of brandy can write a song with with vaguely spooky lyrics that don't mean a hell of a lot.
I too always though it was about greed or materialism.
And I think backwards masking is bunk. Its like looking at an inkspot or the clouds and somebody says, "Do you see the puppy?". Well, now that it has been suggested, they probably will.
The Lemon Song was inspired by Robert Johnson. Same sort of lyrics in his Travelling Riverside Blues, which Zeppelin also covered (and did a great job).
I think its clear what he means from the "squeeze my lemon" lyrics.

I think the lyrics are brilliant - you can interpret them a million ways. But they probably don't really mean much at all. My vote is for Rouge's interpretation!

Its actually Jimmy Page's symbol when he was in Led Zeppelin. Each member had their own symbol. It is said that Page derived it from Aleister Crowley's work, but nobody really knows what it means. Probably means something sorta stupid that will make me look like an idiot if it is found out.
I can definitely count a few and I still get a kick out of it.
