Plus, if you like wireless internet, you'd need a data plan anyways.
Yes, it has to have a data plan. Smallest is $25/month which only gives you 4MB of data transfer. They tell me 1MB is about 500 emails of 200 words, or 10 emails with attachments, or 10 webpages. It varys though depending on how many pictures the webpage has and whatnot, so that's an average. If you just want it for email, that should be enough, keeping in mind you can upload and download via data cable with your desktop if you need to (get a picture or file or something).

Why do you need a data plan if you're going to get that phone? I was thinking about getting the Treo 650 and not using the Internet portion of it, but if I *must* get the data plan I'm not going to bother...

So why use it as a phone then either? Frankly, i don't know, and I think they'll be changing their policy soon based on what other companies are doing, but for now, that's how it is.

I want to use it as a PDA plus a phone in one. I don't need to surf the 'net at the same time.

Same with me...the turn off with PDA's was the fact that I had to carry both it and a phone around, which is a PITA.
But of course I can see it from Telus's end...the subsidization factor, just like with regular phones. (ie a 100$ phone actually costing 300$, the money made up through a term contract via service).
Hopefully data prices come down/limits go up in the next little while.

I know what the software issue is. The phone is good at sucking my nuts after a long, sweaty workout, and that's it. It frezes all the time, doesn't dial, drops calls...the POS is higher maintenance than a tub girl at Cowboys. Other than that it's GREEEEAAAAAAT!!!

BALLS! Who am I kidding? IT SUCKS!

I've had all 3 of Palm, IPAQ and Blackberry.

I went from Palm (great device) to IPAQ two years ago. The IPAQ was cool, but I just went to a blackberry a few months ago, and no looking back. I would not be able to go back to either IPAQ or Palm now, the Blackberry is just so good with email (which for me is the most important function) that I couldn't live without it.

I have my heart set on a Dell Axim x50v or x51v. I gotta have the high resolution for picture viewing. If anyone has one they want to sell or know someone, PM me.
