That being said, if this was the precedent for Olympic pucks, established through previous tournaments, everything probably unfolded the way it always has, and Hughes was unaware that was the case. I'm sure most players would ignorant to that process, and given that he's walked what he said back, I'm sure someone explained why it unfolded the way it did.

To me, it's reasonable that he would want it though.
Yeah, but the puck for a first or 100th or whatever goal means nothing to anyone else. Pucks that have interest sport-wide go to the HOF.

I dunno.

Seems like the NHL seems to invent controversy for likes.

He's a dumb young hockey player who said something not calculated.

Oh noes, where does the puck go???? Who gives a crap.

Probably had the copy written but didn’t hit publish early enough.

Why not take the net or one of the boards lol

Scoring a goal does not mean you own the puck, ice, arena

Surprised Trump hasn't jumped on this and demanded the puck for the US Hockey HOF.

I'm sure the USA Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth Minnesota already has 2 very nice displays of memorabilia for both the men and women winning gold medal Olympic teams. DT is too busy retrieving his lost golf balls!

I'm not arguing that he should get it.
I'm just saying that it's understandable that he would expect to get it, since it's a well established tradition in hockey that you keep significant pucks.

for personal milestones, yes

but this is a team accomplishment, and the single biggest moment in US hockey - Hughes didn't win gold, the team did

*Nevermind, it's not worth arguing about something I don't actually care about.
