These signings can't hurt at this point, but I take them with a grain of salt. Carter King really hasn't shown much, and despite having good production in the AHL, Morton hasn't been given a chance of any substance in the NHL either.
Likely this doesn't amount to much more than AHL depth, but the more swings you take the better the chances of hitting eventually. The fact Gross is nearly 24 fits him more into the right now category then the bulk of the prospects coming who are maybe still 2 years away.

Draft McKenna and then the Flames have 5 of the top 60 college hockey scoring leaders.

For those who will inevitably ask where he might slot in our prospect rankings, IMO, he probably falls into the grouping of Othmann, Stromgren, Wiebe and King (so maybe in the 15-20 range) - guys that are a little older, but have a very decent chance of being NHLers.

Our prospect cupboard is just ridiculous. And this is BEFORE the 2026 Draft, where we have EIGHT picks in the FIRST THREE ROUNDS.

Probably just to give them a little hope before pulling the run from out under them.

Great to have the benefit of some of the players wanting to come home or closer to home. Gaudreau effect probably still helping too, as some of the kids who watched him growing up are now coming of age.
Carter King
Tyson Gross
Hopefully leading to Cale Makar in a couple of years too

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Gross the top NCAA free agent this year?

On a PPG basis, it would be 7 of the top 43:
1) Wyttenbach
2) McKenna
20) Gross
26) Castagna
29) Potter (unofficially)
30) Hoskin
42) Reschny

It will be interesting to compare Gross, King, and Castagna in the system next year. Great job picking up more centre talent.
I don't know if we have a #1C but it feels like we have a bunch of high floor guys cooking at a minimum.

Not just in the first three rounds.
8 picks in the first TWO rounds plus only a couple picks - they could be the first two picks of the third round.

Thought maybe they'd wait until the team was back from the road trip to do a big in-person news conference, but all the same... done deal.

Good signing, hopefully he has a great year with the Wranglers, before taking another step.
We could see a completely new roster for the Wranglers next year:
Forwards:
UFA: Kirkland, Bishop
RFA: Stromgren, Kerins, Othmann, Morton, King, Bell, Ciona
Potential Additions: Reschny(?), Wyttenbach(?), Gross, Castagna, Basha, Curran, Hoskin(?)
Not in the long term plan(?): Littler, Lipinski
Defense
UFA: Miromanov, Cicek
RFA: White, Grushnikov
Potential Additions: Wiebe, Mews, Hurtig(?), Jamieson(?)
Goalies
UFA: Prosvetov
RFA: Say

Yeah. I imagine a few naysayers will say it's a nepo hire. I say the opposite. The family connection was an asset in enticing him here.
